It's time for an update. We are through with the chemo, 4 monster hits, once every three weeks. That was followed with 12 once a week Taxol and Herceptin infusions. It was a 25 week adventure because one of the weeks her blood count was too low for an infusion.
The bad thing about Her2 positive receptor breast cancer is it is so aggressive. But the good thing is they have Herceptin that neutralizes the Her2. Bad thing about Herceptin is it can cause issues with the heart, we're talking congestive heart failure. Last Taxol/Herceptin infusion was without the Herceptin because her ejection fraction was low, heart issue. But we went in a week I later, last Monday, and they decided to go ahead and initiate the once every three weeks schedule of Herceptin doses that will continue until middle of next February. We will be watching the heart with scheduled echocardiograms to make sure the good doesn't become the bad.
She is doing awesome, right now she is sleeping because yesterday was a monster for her. I had left to go do a job and she was working in the yard on her plants when she heard water flowing in the garage, water heater failed. She got the breaker thrown and the water shut off at the street before she called me. Then she started on the mess in the garage.
I got home as soon as I could, hour or so later, and she was steadily getting after it. I picked up a new water heater and we had it installed and working soon after.
They pulled out a dozen lymph nodes when they did the bi-lateral mastectomy. That was on the right side. Now she has to be very careful with that right arm, even down to not putting the right hand in hot dish water, lymphodema isn't something to mess with. She also has a daily regimin of excerises to keep the lymphodema away.
I would say that by the middle of June the wig will be put away. She'll have enough hair of her own.
Right now we are smothered with life as usual stuff, the house had $18,000.00 worth of damage done during the two hail storms and we're taking our time about getting it repaired because we have just started the storm season. One of my neighbors had his roof replaced after the first storm and the next day the big one hit and he got to do it all over again plus more stuff was damaged. Spring has sprung and the yard is going wild etc.
If we can we will find ourselves out west at 7,000' off the grid in the fifth wheel this August. Low eighties in the day beat the heck out of low 100's with that rate of humidity here at home.
