Here's a new one guys.
I was at the dealer and one of the salesman hopped on an RTV and took off. Being used to the quick stop (when you let off the pedal), he took for granted this would happen. IT DIDN'T and he coasted. Scared the !#$&. out of him as he almost hit another piece of equipment.
He had to go but mentioned something about there being a capability to turn some fork around and it has the pedal come back slowly and stops it from the normal quasi-instant stopping.
Has anyone heard of this? The RTV he was driving was just delivered. Did Kubota change the way this thing works?
He'll find out more and get back with me but this may be nice for those who don't care for the quick stopping.

Just got off the phone with my dealer and he has not heard anything about that. Would be nice for some, but we sure like the way it is, once adjusted to it.

I would say no.. Its part of the benefits of a hydrostatic trans.. Its a plus NOT a negative..

Jippy??

It would be nice if it were adjustable or could be removed. I understand the benefit but would prefer it to not be so sudden. I do not have any steep hills that would require engine braking..I would probably buy one if this were moderated a bit.

Its really not that bad.. Once your used to it its not even there.. Please don't exclude an RTV because of this.. Its just a matter of getting used to it and its works great .. Trust me.. I was taken back at first too but learned to adapt to it and now its wayy better then free wheeling..

I am wondering how the JD HPX Diesel works.

Y2KF250PSD--You are the HPX expert. Have you driven a RTV ? Does your HPX diesel rapidly slow down when you let off the pedal. Also after reading your posts about problems with gas model, I am glad to here all is well with the diesel.

The HPX has a standard CVT transmission just like almost every other utility vehicle made. The RTV slows quickly because it has a hydrostatic transmission like a tractor. It takes experience to drive it smoothly, once you learn how to its very convienant and has power far beyond anything else.

Green_Center,

I don't consider myself an expert by any means but thanks for the compliment! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

The HPX has some compression braking if you are in low range and you keep keep the idle up on the engine. It works fairly well for holding you back on steep hills. If you're in high range, better be on top of the brakes.

I haven't driven the RTV. I went and looked at them right before I bought the HPX diesel (replacement for the gasser).

When I told the Kubota sales guy I was also looking at the HPX diesel, he said, "I'm sorry". I eyeballed the RTV and walked away.

Personally, I don't like the ROPS on the RTV. I like the ability to go under tree limbs and weave trough wooded areas when out checking my cows. I also prefer the center console mounted shifters on the HPX compared to the dash mounted levers on the RTV. But, this is all personal preference.

If the ROPS on the RTV was removable and the sales guy's attitude had been better, I certainly would've seriously considered the RTV.

The diesel HPX has performed flawlessly. It's pulled everything I've hooked up to it and climbs hills like a mountain goat.

That's another mark against the smart @$$ sales guy then. He told me they were not removable.

I like it much better (looks and functionality) without the ROPS.
