I see in the link you posted that the ROPS aren't installed.
I agree that you pop some bolts off and it's gone but I'm pretty sure that the dealer can't sell it/allow off their lot without it being installed. (Ditto on tractors equipped with ROPS). Actually, I stopped into a dealer who just got a truck load of them in and he said he had to hurry and get them to the back. They won't even allow a test ride without it being in place.
Where you and Chuck are, the terrain is relatively flat and may allow you to go without one but if conditions allow, I'd always recommend having it in place. I've heard that people have rolled RTV's (primarily due to sharp turning at high speeds). A 2000# RTV rolling over without a ROPS could get real ugly.
I live in a very hilly area and having had one nasty roll (that put me in critical care for weeks) and having several close calls, I wish all my machines had ROPS.
