Snow Attachments ABS Plastic Pipe Snow Blade Edge

/ ABS Plastic Pipe Snow Blade Edge #101
Ok so I know its July, but time to start thinking about winter again....
I am thinking about welding some 2" pipe to some steel tabs so I can bolt it on the the back blade as an edge to plow snow with, and then in the spring, unbolt it and use the blade as normal. Does anyone have an experience using steel pipe as opposed to ABS or plastic as an edge to protect the gravel ?

See post #59 in this thread for a link.

You guys just saved me around $1000-1500. I was getting ready to purchase a snowblower to clear my newly paved drive, but I happened upon this conversation thread and thought I'd give this idea a try. I had some 2" PVC electrical conduit, cut it into 1ft pieces; put one piece on each end of my blade, about 4-6 inches from each end.
WOW! I was able to easily clean my drive w/ NO damage to the asphalt.
THANKS to whoever came up with this idea!

I just had my drive paved last summer and have plowed it now 4 times with no damage using both my Meyer Snow Plow and my Woods Rear Grader Blade.

No conduit, no shoes, ect. No problems what so ever.

Must be that the concept works much better on a plow than a FEL ........ I have given up on the idea. One pc. per storm is a pita.

I'll focus on using the blowers.

all of the threads suggested that black ABS (hard to find, these days) lasts far longer than PVC

LOL,

But then I bet you don't wax your tractor either!

And I don't coat my asphalt every year either. (re-cycled asphalt, already 'experienced')

Being my first snow removing winter, I found this thread made an interesting read. I will try the ABS idea, but I find it somewhat curious that a round pipe will clean my paved driveway free of snow better or as well than my FEL? But not wanting to "scrape" the blacktop up, I will give the piping a try as I do have about a 1000ft gravel private road before my almost 20% graded driveway.

How many use it on their snowblower?

Any reports one year later guys??

I bought some today at Lowes. $10 for 5' of 1.5" ABS. Now that I have it, we won't get any more snow till next year. The snow that's on the ground now has been rained on and then refrozen. No point playing around in that.

Many years ago(1988), I slit a 2 inch schedule 40 steel pipe, slid a 3/8' x 6" X 7ft piece of steel in the slot and welded it in place. I blew matching holes into the plate so that I could remove my grader edgee and attach my snow edge. It works like a champ and i'm still using it. It's great for gravel drives because the large radius doesn't move a lot of gravel.
