Re:post hole digger

i have read where the post hole digger is one of the most dangerous farm implements, not only is there a entanglement potential, have you ever seen one of these thing throw a rock, i have seen grapefruit sized rocks fly over thirty yards from mine, i dont let any one near this thing when it is running, too dangerous. great tool, must be treated with the utmost respect and caution. i use mine a lot to plant trees, over 400 so far and God knows how many shrubs rose bushes, etc.

apparently given the speed of the shaft and the speed of nerve conduction in your body, by the time your brain registers the feel of the pull on your clothes, you have been pulled into the shaft and it is already too late to save yourself.

always and only operate this beast from the seat of the tractor, and dont let any one with forty yards of the thing.

my prayers are with those involved in the accident, i hope some how and some way something good will come of this.

Prayers going out to your father-in-laws friend. My sister-in-laws mother lost a leg in PTO accident few years ago. Tragedy can happen in a split second but the physical/mental scares can last for a lifetime!

RegWaters, I too have been praying for those involved in this situation. There are some good things that have come from this. It has made many of us more aware of the danger of using not only augers but all tractors and equipment. Also, it has made me more aware of the kindness and concern of members of this board who are praying for people they do not know personally. I am sure God will use this situation to bring about other good things. Keep praying!

Just an update on "Bud" . Took him in to surgery today and put a couple of pins in his left leg. His right was not doing well earlier in the week but now is showing signs of recovery. Scans show no spine or head injury. Seems to be a good sign that the doctors felt he was strong enough for surgery. Continue to lift him up. Thanks for the prayer and support.

Under the circumstances, that's about as encouraging a report as we could hope to hear. We will continue to hold him in our thoughts and hope for further good news.

How is your father-in-law holding up?

Just a good news update,
Bud had taken a turn for the worse, they ended up taking his right leg below the knee and put him on a trach respirator. His Kindneys failed and they put him on Dialysis. After taking the leg he is now recovering. The respirator is off and after removing him from dialysis his kidneys have began to function. Thanks for the prayers , looks like he has begun the long road to recovery.

Glad to hear he's doing better. It's still a tragedy that's going to stick in my mind for a long time, but it sounds like Bud still has a future, and I'm sure he's thankful for that.

How is your father-in-law handling it?

Wish them both well for all of us.
