Actual Tundra Towing Capacity

   / Actual Tundra Towing Capacity #51
I just went throught the full size truck buying process, and let me tell you, after running trucks for 25+ years in a construction business, they've never been built better, offered more features, been quieter, smoother, or been more powerful than now. My last purchase, a '99 F-350 superduty would be shamed by my newest truck, my '07 GMC or any other full size new truck.

You guys gotta get up and throw away the 70's back-issues of Consumer Reports.....those days are over.

You can hold off for Toyota to someday build your dream "japanese quality" full size pickup, or you can buy a DMAX 360/660 with an allison 6 speed and an 11.5" true locking rear GM pickup right now and stop dreaming. The reliability and build quality is there, right now, backed by the longest powertrain warranty in the business. I love mine and can't see what in the world you think Toyota (if they ever do it) is gonna do better.

Besides, you can have some of your percieved "japanese quality" in the DMAX, since it was designed by Isuzu of Japan and built right here in Ohio. Some of the DMAX parts even come from Japan. The rest of the truck is American.......have your cake & eat it, too.

Or keep waiting for Toyota.......

GCWR for the 2007 Tundra is 16,000 lbs
GCWR is 14,800 on my 04 Titan, I assume 07 is the same or close.

And back to the original post, this is from the Chevrolet website:
Maximum trailer weight ratings are calculated assuming a base vehicle, except for any option(s) necessary to achieve the rating, plus driver. The weight of optional equipment, passengers and cargo will reduce the maximum trailer weight your vehicle can tow. See your Chevy dealer for additional details.

so where do i find the info on the toy?

+The Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) is the total allowable weight of the completely loaded vehicle and trailer including any passengers, cargo, equipment and conversions. The GCWR for your vehicle should not be exceeded.

I didn't sign up, but did notice an active forum thread on a 2007 Tundra broken camshaft. is that a common issue?

First off I gotta say the numbers don't mean much at all. Its mostly a marketing war out there in the auto makers world in which they will inflate the numbers as far as they can to make a product look good. A few yrs ago I actually took the time to do my own towing test between my 3500 Express and my brothers 1/2 ton Silverato. We used his 6000lb. boat. Basically the Express hardley noticed the load and starts from a stop smooth and braking was stable and the truck felt like it was in control of the load. The 1/2 ton had a little shutter when it started moving and diffently didn't have the braking action. Here is the clincher..... his truck has a higher towing rating than mine, yet it ain't even close. Heck his truck couldn't even handle the picture I posted statically let alone go down the road. So I say again forget the numbers, they are for the most part bogus.
Next the quality thing is pretty much out the door now to. Fit and finish on anything is better than ever before on all makes and models. With regular maintenance and a little TLC you can drive domestics or imports about as far as you want. A few yrs ago my and my wife owned 2 cars and a truck. None had less than 250,000mi one was a 69 and all were GM. The 69 finally completely rusted out, the 87 also rusted out and the truck was sold for something heavier duty. The truck is still running.

About the pic I posted: I had bought the steer in Wisconsin. A guy at work just happened the buy the Mopar in the same town I was going to. He offered to pay my way up and back if got the car for him. Thats how it came to be. And almost all the way back I couldn't figure why people kept waving at us on 70. I found out is was Mopar week in Columbus where we were headed. Go figure!!!

Here's my current setup.

100_0248.jpg

L2800 w/loader & hoe = 4,500 lbs.
Trailer = 2,500 lbs
Boxblade = 800lbs
Rake (in bed) = 250 lbs
Total = @ 8,050 lbs load (does not include me, fuel, tools, etc.)

The truck is an '05 Dodge with Cummins diesel, 4x4, 6-spd manual, 3.75 rear. Tows this load easily, as natural as frogs in a pond, with power to spare and no overloaded feel. Toyota hasn't had a truck of THIS caliber on the market (Hino trucks excepted) and until they get a few years of this kind of towing done in America by Americans, I'm not interested in their product. As I mentioned, I had an '03 V6 Tundra. The quality was very good, drove like a sportscar, got good mileage. Building that '03 and building a truck like my Dodge are two different things, and I want to hear somebody say "Yeah, I towed my xxxxx lb. such-and-such for 5 years without a problem" before I give Toyota any attention as a towing machine.

Familyman,

Nice setup you have there. One question: aren't you supposed to drop the bucket down to the deck for towing? Or is that just for bigger machines?
