Actual Tundra Towing Capacity

Exactly. The big two (+ dodge whoever ends up owning them) are more apt to tow the kinds of loads we pull behind our trucks with diesel engines or big block V-8 gas engines better than the current lineup of Japanese trucks with their smaller disp. gas engines. This load was about 11,000 lbs and I towed it with ease:

My L-35 TLB 4in1 bucket with filled tires & fuel ~ 8,000 lbs
12K Bri Mar trailer ~ 2,500lbs
2 extra buckets ~ 500 lbs

Nice rig, Charles! What is your length on deck from the stopper rail up front to the ramp pivot points? I didn't want too much trailer so I ended up with 18'3" on deck. With FEL and brush hog sandwiching my Kubota L4610 I hang over both ends but not excessively. I have a little more wieght that I had to have but I preferred the diamond plate deck and heavy duty car hauler construction. My observation with wood decks is that the way most folks discover it needs attention is when the tractor breaks through it.

Very nice Charles. I wonder how long your trailer is on deck from the stopper up front back to the rear edge of the dovetail? I didn't want too much trailer so I ended up with 18'3" on deck (diamond plate steel.) My observation with wood is that the way folks tend to recognize the need for deck maint is when the tractor breaks through.

When I load my Kubota L4610 with FEL and 6ft brush hog there is overhang at both ends but not a problem.

John,

Yes, the bucket should normally rest on the deck, but this BH dipper doesn't reach down far enough with the travel pins installed on the boom.
I have a Woods BH80-X on order (ships June 2nd!), and it will get chained down when transported.

Patrick,

Thanks! The length from stopper to the end of the dovetail is 20' (the flat deck is 18', the dovetail is 2'). I had concerns about having the trailer too small, so took the 20. I'm glad I did as the whole rig drives and backs up great, and there's enough room for extra equipment. I prefer the wood deck because it absorbs oils and is easy for me to modify or replace.
It would take 2 of my old Tundras to pull this.

familyman,

Do you happen to know how much the trailer weighs?

The dealer, who had a scale, told me it was 2,500 lbs.

Nice setup Familyman, I've got the same size trailer, CK35 with loaded tires, FEL and BH and my Titan tows it fine. I haven't towed with any extra implements yet, I estimate the TLB weight at around 5500 plus the trailer at 2400. I would not have attempted it with my 2000 Tundra.

I'm glad to hear your Titan is pulling it well.
I looked hard at a DK45 this year and almost pulled the trigger, but we need a new car. So I'm just upgrading the hoe, and getting out to do some side work.

somewhere deep in this computer i have pics of fully customized titans at a motorcross race. i took them in he pits, those trucks have the look of real trucks. I have always thought nissan was the quiet jap company with the biggest nutz. there stuff is always powerful and looks great, did they ever fix the problems with the brakes on em? i had a buddy that worked at a nissan store and he told me that when they came out they were going through pads every 12k miles.

Yes, they fixed the brakes. Mine never really had a bad problem, but i took it in around 35k with a slight brake jutter and they applied a TSB and replaced rotors/pads. Right after that I put a small lift on it and 325/70 tires and brakes are still fine at 67k.

The other problem they had was the rear axle (dana) blowing out the diffs. Again, I never experienced the blown diff but at 63k I noticed one of the seals was leaking, dealer replaced whole axle assembly under extended warranty.

So not a perfect service record, but that's what I get for buying a first model year.
