My neighbor and I are in constant competition over tools, tractors, gadgets and such. He currently has the 'big tractor' bragging rights. He has a NH 1920 and I have a NH TC30. Well, I really caught him off-guard today. I added an automotive type horn to my tractor and gave him a loud 'toot' as I passed by. He was 'green with envy'. He called me on the phone an hour later to tell me that he can't let it stand and that he is going to put a louder horn on his. I may have to add a compressor for air horns when this all works itself out.

So, while he's hooking up his horn, put alternate flashing headlights and a siren on yours. That way you get the right of way on beverage runs.

If you want to limit the armament race to horns, get one of those that plays music.

Jerry,

Now, you'll have to add a "small" P.A. system... then drive by... depress the microphone and announce... Howdy Neighbor...! /w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

AW Direct has some really neat strobe lights you can install in your existing headlights, too. You've probably seen them on police and ambulance vehicles.

Can you imagine the look on his face when you meet on the road and hit THAT switch? /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif

The best thing is, most people don't know how they work inside regular headlights or where to get them. /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Yep, I was 'toot'n' my horn again this morning and I stopped to talk to my neighbor and his wife. His wife asked him if he had a horn on his tractor. It nearly brought a tear to my eye when he had to tell her he did'nt have one. She did'nt say a word. I can only imagine her disappointment. Maybe I've gone too far /w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

Ok, at least it was good until he reminded her that he has a backhoe and I don't /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

OK, better late than never. Here's a picture of the waterproof button for the horn. It's the black button on the blue panel. The lower button is the pull switch for the lights.

Here's a shot of the mounting location I chose for the horn.

Jerry,

I'm reviving this thread because I am going to get the wife a horn for Christmas. She says it is the one thing the tractor is missing. Any tips/tricks I should be aware of?

Hazmat, have you considered a siren, since it's the wife's tractor? My dalin has a siren on hers, and there have been a few times I was glad she did. That 22hp Jacobsen can be a big problem when you aren't expecting it to come up behind you.
I can cut you a deal on a used Unitrol 800.

I wonder what her reaction would be if she found one of those rubber bulb clown horns under the xmas tree.

After reading this post that Wild Turkey Horn in the JC Whitney catalog is looking more and more attractive!

I always thought it would be fun to add an "Aoogah" horn. They sound pretty cool. And, if you hold the button so you just get the first part of the sound, it really gets people attention!

How about a key fob that arms/disarms a tractor security system and flashes the yellow blinker lights and makes the double audible chirp - just like a car?

Or you could go for the ghetto'd out low rider tractor. You know, dropped chassis, coffee can tailpipe, $1000 rims and brakes with low profile tires that are worth more than the tractor and maybe some neon underbody lights and let's not forget the blackouts for the headlights. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

It always cracks me up to see an $800 civic with $2,000 worth of tires & rims.

Althogh, It's good to see that hot rodding has been reborn, I didn't see a lot of it when I was a kid (born in 1975). I would have loved to live thru the muscle car era of the 60's & 70's
