Added a tooth bar

I have some old 25 year old logging trails that were rutted up by a skidder before we owned the property. Dirt was pushed into the middle and outside edges of the trail by the skidder tires and now has tree roots (mostly smaller) and small trees in it. I am thinking that the PTB might be good to sever the roots and small trees allowing me to use the bucket to level the trails back up reasonably well and not be too expensive.

Does this sound like a reasonable use for the PTB?

Also, I currently have Edge Tamers on my bucket that have proven to be quite handy while moving snow. I asked BxPanded and they said the PTB could be designed to allow for the Edge Tamers to be used at the same time as the PTB. However, I am currently thinking that the PTB and the Edge Tamers might not really be best used together but separately since they are both easily removable.

What do you more experienced tractor users think?

I had to look up Edge Tamers to see what they are. Without any experience with them, I would say that they should be removed when using the tooth bar. I think they would prevent the tooth bar from digging in a bit - or a lot when you needed it to. Same with back dragging to level things out a little finer. I think the Edge Tamers might interfere with that too. As far as the logging trails I would give it a try. There are better tools out there for the job, but they are also more expensive. The Piranha tooth bar is one of the most cost effective additions you can make. In the end it will also save the cutting edge on your bucket too.

Thank you. That was my line of thinking as well. The Edge Tamers are designed to keep the bucket from digging in. With them installed, the bucket rides about 3/4 inch above the ground. For moving snow or a pile of something, that keeps the bucket from destroying the yard. But you can only level with the back edge of the bucket and you cannot easily dig below ground level. Since both the Edge Tamers and the PTB are easy and quick to install and remove, I think they may be good complementary additions that can be alternated when needed.

I have never removed my PTB since installing it. Absolutely love it for any dirt work or digging and as bucket lip protection as well. You might find the same. I do have a QA so I can quickly swap out the bucket for some forks that are easily adjustable for width.
