Toothed bucket vs bolt on tooth bar?

I have only had smooth buckets. On my current Kubota (L6060) did get a teeth bar (no idea the brand) bolt on design. For removing plants or digging in hard dirt like the tooth bar on. Otherwise don't need the extra weight nor the extra length and want a smooth bottom on the bucket. Getting dirt or rocks off of concrete or smoothing dirt I do not like the tooth bar. The tooth bar does extend past the bucket or course and it easy to damage something much easier for me than the smooth bucket.

I have an ATI tooth bar and all 4 of my buckets are drilled to fit it. I'm 74 and it takes me about 5 minutes start to finish to take it off or put it on. Reason why I like the ATI is the each tooth is replaceable and all the teeth are hardened alloy steel and you can get them in Tungsten Carbide if you want.

I use the bucket on my Steiner all the time. I decided to go with a bolt on bar because it will reduce the wear on the leading edge of the bucket. . I'm also lazy and don't look forward to having to cut off the worn leading edge , grinding to fit and welding a new edge onto the bucket. Like I said , I use mine a lot and the buckets for lightweight equipment are not as heavy/durable as larger loaders so it is easy to wear the bucket more on one side than the other. also a bolt on adds a little more stiffness to the smaller buckets

I purchased a tooth bar at auction had to cut it down a few inches. Then drilled 2 holes to mount it. It works great only takes a few minutes to install and it cost me less than $75. A local rental shop closed bar is a Bobcat one I believe. I have a New Holland compact with 54” bucket

I am amazed to learn that people put teeth on their tractor buckets. I have never seen them on a farm tractor, we work the ground with an implement on the back of the tractor then scoop it up with a smooth bucket. We have special buckets for manure or stones.

I bought my Kubota B3030 with a bolt on tooth bar with replaceable teeth (never had to replace). It performs significantly better excavating, and it can be removed in a minute (two bolts). With it on, you can only smooth with the back corner of the bucket, not the edge. I need to remove the tooth bar to plow snow or to install forks that attach to the edge and secure with chain and ratchet binders.

I bought an additional, very narrow, heavy duty bucket and welded teeth onto it. When I need teeth I use the narrow bucket with long teeth. When I don't, I use the wider bucket with smooth edge. I will say...I find myself leaving the tooth bucket on the tractor because I have so many large rocks in my area.

Well, there’s the up-front cost… roughly $550-$600 difference delivered… I’d rather leave that point out of the conversation for now…

There are times when I need to dig small, rather shallow holes… other operations require a smooth edge bucket… so I need teeth… and I don’t need teeth…

Then there’s the age factor… I’m not getting much younger as of late so I’m wanting to make things easier now and for the future… not that bolting and un-bolting a Piranha is necessarily difficult… two levers on the QA is easier and I always have the tools I need (hands!) with me… that, and I don’t have to lift a tooth bar to reattach (no idea how much a 66” Piranha bar weighs)

Maybe you’ve guessed by now, but I’m looking for reasons not to buy a toothed bucket…

Just don’t try too hard to talk me outta this, eh?;)
Two words: Ratchet Rake. Have a look before you buy anything else.
I have a L2501 with a Ratchet Rake that is about 6” narrower than the bucket.
It is a beast and very easy on and off with the ratchet straps. I use it for leveling my gravel road and for back dragging/clearing weeds and brush. (There is none better). I even rake my back field with it. The metal is 1/2” with two sets of teeth at 90 degrees to each other (Forward and down).
Install is 3-4 minutes and with good planning (It was removed on level ground) these is NO lifting.
I’m 72 and the thing is very easy to put on and take off.
Wish I had known about this and a grapple 25 years ago.
Looks like the 60” bar is $420 shipped lower 48.

I had a bucket with bolt on teeth that u used on my skidsteer. Primarily for grading my road. The teeth bolted right to the bucket edge and you could not use a cuttings at the same time. So over time, the teeth.. and the bucket edge wore down .. so now it's got a cutting edge only on it. If I were to do it over again.. I'd get a tooth bar attachment that goes over a cutting edge .
The bar I have on mine has a chisel type edge ground on both leading edges . When the teeth wear down or the leading edge has enough wear all you need to do is flip the bolt on edge over and reattach your teeth and your back in business.

Get the bar. You will rarely change it.
