Guys,
I really wish you luck with Optima batteries. I tried them in two different applications (both red and yellow) on diesel engines and had horrible experience with them. One was the group 51 on my old 4400. After 2 replacements in 4 months, I went back to a normal $40 acid battery. Maybe that is why the 51 was disconntinued. The other was red tops (can't remember the group) in my pickup. Again, after 2 replacements I gave up. They would never hold a charge and would just die after a few weeks or a month. Both times this was in the summer. I'm just glad I used a local dealer so I could get warranty service on them. I've never tried another AGM type battery because the Optima gave me such horrible service, I gave up on the technology.
I know they must work because people use them and seem to like them. I just could not make them work. Not bashing anything here, just suggesting you buy from someone you feel will help you if you have issues.

I do hope to find a replacement for a 22NF ASAP
In my solar application I went to flooded batteries as opposed to AGMs. I chat with a knowledable solar installer from around my way now and then. He does lots of installations and he won't use the AGMs because of short life and other problems.
He says,"By the time the warranty runs out, so does the battery."
I do use AGMs in things like UPS and power out emergency lighting but those applications are primarily infrequent use from a battery that sits on float most of the time.
I'll keep an eye on the 22NF in my tractor.

Not that I am a battery expert, but has any one tried an Odyssey battery on their machine. I have them in 4 of my HD motorcycles and the oldest one is 8 years old and still working. If you know about HD's and their hard starting and vibration then it is only my opinion that these batteries may work. My newly acquired 650 MFWD needs a new battery and I just might try one also. The website has a lot of info and all the BCI groups they make. Looks like they can probably handle any of the JD's sizing. Hope this helps and does not further cloud this issue.
I found a local dealer that still had a new Yellow top d51. They gave me a great deal, $40.00.
I fabricated a wrap around hold down strap that utilized the stock clamps for the battery. With a coat of black paint it will look stock and will allow me to install any standard group 22nf or 51 battery without any mods to tractor or battery.

Yep pics would be great. I just replaced my LVN........25 with a Strongbox ST, and I will see how that works, but I really did not have a huge corrosion issue. i plan to get the spray to assist. But I am looking for another battery just incase and this one pukes.
