If your not tired of it now, here is the last one. The little shed needs to be moved. That was a goat barn that I made a few years back. It is on skids & the object was to drag it to different places that the goats would be keeping the weeds trimmed. Didn't happen & the goats have long been history. Especially after they got loose & trimmed everything but the weeds. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

That really looks nice. It gives me some motivation, because my barn will be gambrel-roofed with a shed roof on one side, like yours. I'm even leaning towards the red color. I like your barn a lot!

One thing that I took notice of was how nice it looks with the metal siding. I was leaning towards hardi-plank on sheathing because I realy didn't like the look of the metal-sided buiildings I've seen. But, you've done such a nice job with the trim, etc., it really looks like a traditional wood-sided barn. With the cost of sheathing gone so high, you've given me something to think about. Did you insulate/finish the inside? If you get a chance, could you take a snap or two of what it looks like inside?

I'm not building a pole barn; mine will be stick-built on a monolithic slab with engineered trusses on 24" centers, one of the reasons being that it was easier to get engineered to the required 110 MPH wind load around here.

Good job.

Question: How did you handle the flashing up against the originonal building. The fact that the buidling siding is not flat makes this complicated to get a good seal?

As you can see in one of the pictures the flashing is pre-bent to a 120 deg. angle. It fits up in the building siding 5 inches. On the roof side there is a foam piece that fits the profile of the steel sheets. It goes down first then the flashing which is supposed to prevent any water from going back.

molerjr:

sure looks nice finished the way you did it. sure could be a pitcure for some calander that those city goers would buy for a few dollars!

I think the little goat shed looks just fine there personally.

Can I ask how you attached the upper header to the exsisting building?

Nice pics, looks like you did a great job.

Paul, thanks. The place where the board is attached is the same location as 2nd story floor joist. I just used alot 20d nails.
I took some pictures of the inside the other day, but it was pretty overcast & they didn't come out too good. I'll try again. As for insulation, I used 1" or 1 1/2" insulation board. I cut & fit it in between the 2X4's that go from pole to pole. Covered everything with OSB. I have an oil furnace. It would be better if I insulated the ceiling but I haven't gotten around to that yet. Plus I have stuff hanging up there & insulation would take up that space. I don't keep heat in it all the time just when I am working out there or like last year when I had a big Fiesta bowl party. When it is real cold, below 20 or so, I use the torpedo heater to get it heated fast then let the oil furnace takeover. I also have two water hydrants. One over a single laundry tub. I keep the hydrant open & put a valve on the end to regulate the flow. I just have to remember to close the hydrant & open the valve when it drops below freezing. (Yeah, I forgot a few times)
