As the days start to get short and the temperatures go into the 30's at night It is time to start thinking about better ways to plow the drive way this year.

Please post any comments:

Has anyone tried the following: Pictures available

1 8' foot fisher plow with the "A" frame and the hydraulic cylinders connected. Weld a 6"x15" plate to the "A" frame about 12 inches behind the front connecting pin. Weld a box beam/u channel on top of the 1/2 inch plate cantilevered back enough to allow the cutting edge of bucket sufficient room to get under the box beam. Weld two threaded bushings onto the back of the box beam to allow you to install some threaded rod to clamp down on the cuttting edge of the bucket.

On the plow frame increase the heigh of the rear mounting ears by adding 1/2x4 plate about 6" in height. Drill a hole and weld in a bushing to allow for a mounting pin to be installed later.

Weld some angle onto the rear of the bucket. Drill a hole and weld in a bushing on the angle.

To install the plow drive up to the plow with the bucket just below level. get the lip of the bucket to go under the box beam. Set down the bucket on top of the plow frame. Install rear mounting pins betwen agle iron on the buckwt and the plow frame mounting ears. Tighten down the threaded rod to clamp the plow in place.

see photos:

The tractor can pick up the plow as demonstrated by chaining it to the bucket at the correct location.

Do you think that your tractor can handle that large of blade or are you going to cut it down? There was a member or two a couple of years ago, that did something about like what you are about to do. Maybe someone remembers and can find it. I know I always like look at what other have done. That way, I can have use of their ideas and mine.:D
Sorry I missed the part about it being an "L" series.

I have seen a tractor recently that had a similar plow mounted to the bucket. It was a bit simpler than the setup you are proposing, but perhaps it is not what you are looking for. Unfortunately, i don't have a picture of it. The owner made a bracket out of steel angle which had braces that the plow would pin to..... much like the plow pins to the plow frame on a pickup. This angle/plow mount bolted inside the bucket with two bolts. I don't remember if a chain attached to the plow (to the top edge of the bucket), raising it by curling the bucket...... or if the angle was bolted far enough in the bucket that curling the bucket back caused the cutting edge to lift on the bottom of the a-frame. Anyway.... he did have an aux valve and quick connects to angle the plow. Removing the plow to use the bucket was a matter of pulling the two pins in the bucket and two quick connect hydraulic lines. It was pretty simple.... the plow floated when plowing as it should. If the angle in the bucket collected too much snow (or dirt) (when using the bucket with the plow removed), it could be removed by taking out two bolts. I suspect the mount for the plow was installed in fall, and removed in spring.

ductape is talking about SALopez. All you need is a piece of 3" angle iron, 4 3" squares of flat stock with a hole drilled in the middle. Bolt the angle iron to the back of the bucket. Sit the plow in the bucket, put the flat stock in place with pins. Then well the flat stock to the angle iron. You don't even need the chain. Just set the bucket flat about 4" off the ground. The plow will float by itself (as if it was on the truck), then the bottom lip of the bucket will lift the plow when you lift the loader.

Also cut that plow down. 8' fisher HD is a heavy plow. You only need 7' of plow to cover the wheels on that tractor.

Put two "tangs" welded inside the bucket and towards rear of bucket, This is easiest set up, and you have pushing power plus the bottom of the bucket is somewhat of a "shelf" holding up plow. I've done this twice before on older tractors I owned.... Putting that old Fisher blade underneath, will be real hard on loader and machine,...

If I put the plow frame inside the bucket, it moves the plow another 12 inches further forward. Will this be an issue? Also, it seems most of the weight is now on the front wheels. Has anyone ever added chains to the front wheels? Is the front drive chain designed to take the majority of the traction load?

I agree with some of the others, the simpler way is to put your mounts inside the bucket. You could probably shorten the legs a bit on the plow frame and still get the clearance you needed for angling. That's a big and heavy plow way out in front of your tractor. You will need a lot of weight in the rear to shift weight onto the rear axle for traction.

pushing the plow out, especially a heavy Fisher, doesn't hurt at all. We've plowed thousands and thousands of hours this way over the last 30 years and never had an issue... We ALWAYS chain the front wheels with St Pierre rollers, and never have chained the rears... All highway and larger construction firms have been using this system, at least in this neighborhood since day one, whenever that was,, never heard of any problems.. In fact, stacking snow is made much easier and quicker with the plow in the bucket.,

I am looking for comments from any one with 3010 or 3130/3430 who has tried something similar. The tractor is about the same chassis size. I think the newer tractors have a QD bucket.

i have two plows that i use on a n industrial MF and Kubota M7040. On the MF i usea Meyers plow mounted inside the bucket with the bracket welded to the bucket so all i have to do is onsert the two pins and go. ON the kubota i have a skidsteer mounted plow that goes on the FEL
