I picked up this trailer last year in a trade. Not exactly what I wanted, I don't like the side rails, but oh well it does have ramps. You can tell by the damage on the rails that at least one of the PO's also wished it had D rings :D

The sides stick up about 3.5 inches above the deck and are 1/4 inch thick. I am thinking of adding weld-on D rings. Since the D rings will need to be up at the edge I am thinking I need to stiffen the sides by adding a 3/16 or 1/4 plate to weld the D ring to. I mostly just haul wood pellets, lumber etc. but would like to have the option of hauling my tractor (b7100) on it as well. Anybody have different ideas or thoughts?

Thanks!

That looks very similar to my Big-Tex, if not the same...I added lots of D-Rings to mine, you can view the pictures in THIS thread. I have towed a lot of stuff and equipment with mine and never had a problem with the way I welded them on.

What we do that is dirt cheap is get some 5/8" round rod from the local supply. About 6' will do. Cut them into 8" lengths and weld them at a 45 between the upright for the rail and the side of the trailer frame. It stiffens up the trailer a lot and gives you a tie down at each upright for about $10.

Like I doctored your picture. Look below, the rods would be what I marked in yellow.

Sorry - :( I am trying to visualize what you trying to say. I understand the cutting m,etal and welding it at 45. But where exactly do you mean? on the inside or outside ? Do you have a picture of ones you have done ?

Exactly! I need to also put a winch on the front for moving pallets to the front... not too fun doing it with a hand winch :(

Yep, there is no manufacture info on the trailer so when I started googling around I found the BigTex trailers. I think mine is a clone as the dimensions are not the same as what BigTex lists on their spec sheets. Construction is similar though.

I hadn't considered putting the D rings on the inside... the trailer _is_ wider than most anything I would slide on there hmmmmm ;)

Diamondpilot's idea is interesting to... especially since I have rod laying around... decisions decisions ;)

I've mentioned this before and will probably many more times......why would anyone build a trailer without tie down points????????? To me its like building one without a hitch.
I have been told though that most landscape trailers aren't intended for the load to be secured.

That is an excellent idea. I have chain pockets on my trailer already but those angled rods wold be a very handy addition. Cheap and easy too, just my kind. :D

Check the picture on my post. I used paint to mark the placement in yellow. I have not done this to my trailer but to about a dozen customers trailers. Just make sure you place the so you can run a chain and hook through.
