Adding grab hooks on front bucket, 2 or 3 hooks?

IF you buy a chain, and it is rated for the work you are going to use it for and if it lasts you "X" years without wearing through or breaking how is that expensive ... If you have spent $50 for a chain and use it for 10 years that comes out to about $0.013 a day...

Yeah, never thought chain was expensive, for what I'm getting. A good dinner in a restaurant costs more than any single chain I've ever bought, and doesn't last nearly as long.

I only buy good chain. I don't own a chain less than 5/16". I only need to replace a chain if I lose it. :rolleyes:

Exactly. I'm still using chain that was purchased by my grandfather, likely before 1940. My father added some to that collection, and now I've roughly doubled it on my own. All 5/16", since that's what they started with and I wanted compatibility of hooks, etc. I should be using 3/8" for some of what I'm doing, mostly skidding with my 7500# trailer winch, but I think I'll downgrade the winch for better speed with less pull before upgrading all my chain.

I also have 3/8" chain. And one 20ft 1/2" chain. It's a beast. I've pulled that chain using a 45,000 lb, six wheel drive grader on solid footing with no concerns. But I'm lazy, I've only used that chain twice.

The "chain" I hate is the heavy duty 2-link chains for my 41x14 rear tires. They're just stupid heavy.

I have to install 2-link chains of my grader tires which are 17.5x25. I raise the tire off the ground, hump the end of the chain as high as I can onto the tire, snag the crossbars on tire lugs. Then use the grader to rotate the tire and drag the chain up on it until the two ends are hanging at the bottom.

Back when I wore a younger man's clothes I could throw them on from the side of the tire. Lost that ability about the time I turned 60..... :cautious:

Working too hard doing that.

Slinging those chains up on the tires or even lifting them, this method will work on R4 tires as well as R1's;
Mounting tire chains

And you can power roll the tire and do it also.
