I have a pretty good idea on making and adding a port from the power beyond of my trator. If anyone would like to share complete details on all needed materials ect., I would appreciate this. I will be feeding a log splitter spool valve from this add on. I know I can by a kit but I like doing things my self. I will need to know about the two (now caped) power beyond ports. That is which is whice. Is one a pump output and the other a sump return. I also am looking for some good tree point log splitter plans. I think just horizontal splitting is all I will need just to keep things simple. This is my first tread and I hope it works for me. Thanks a lot for anyone who will share with me. I did get the JD dealer to send what they have to install there kit, but, it is not a complete set of installation details. By the way, I was able to get just about any thing one would need to do this with from our local salvage yard so I have a lot of hydraulic stuff to work with.

Welcome to TBN:D

Look at these two threads:

Mine

Jim's

You will have to order the plug from JD like Jim did...I used the "kit" from JD. Your machine is very similar...looking at JDParts will help a lot also...

Review these threads and get back to me...

AHHHAAAAA! I finally found the thread I was looking for on a Power Beyond install!! I was just viewing KennyD's pictures on his install.....which date back a few years.

Nice, clean install KennyD! I believe that's what I would like to do.....go directly to a (two spool) valve to and from the source.....thus a minimal amount of hoses. Is this do-able for the 3X20 Series? ....and are those smaller (?) size hoses (as shown in your install) available in a "kit"? To me....this arrangement keeps the clutter down when not being used.

I always see the PB set up with another set of couplings and hoses to attach to the valve. Why do folks do that.....to run a backhoe or log-splitter? (I think I may have just answered my own question here.)

If I can buy a kit such as shown.....can someone provide the number? I feel like I may be back on track again. :)

There is no "kit" for these type setups, it's all DIY. That is why I referred you to Jim's install. You can certainly do it without the QD's and plumb everything directly like I did-but as you guessed, they left them there to use the PB kit to power other things.

Kennyd. I had to say thanks for sharing this and all related links and info. My father and I have been working on Mods for our 4100. Just this day, we found over $1500 of hydraulic rams at the local scrap yard for under $40. Good thing they can only sell for what they pay, .18cents a pound. ( Scored a ditchwitch a few months ago for under $400.. only needed a coil!! but back to the main reason for writing. Pops has been wanting to a backhoe for the John Deere. We already have a PTO pump on the way via a barter..will need to see what kinda control unit comes with it. But that meant a a large tank for cooling the fluid. We were also wanting to add a log splitter since we would have the pump. Thus we could use the splitter and bucket without unhooking everything. Running across this, which came up after I searched for a kit or home built kit for installing Matt Traxx on the rear wheels. The lil 4100 is an awesome tractor..imagine what would happen with the gripping power of a set of traxx!! I had asked the local dealer several times about additional hook ups. They always said..nope can't be done. In seeing this..and reading the parts can be bought separate without paying out the rear PTO!! You have my blessing for a wonder life !! You have reaffirmed my faith the home builders of America.

Thought I would share a 45mins project I did today. The saw was one made by my Pops back in the 80's. The JD is the one I will be doing the Hydraulics Mods on. The shaft to the pulley attachment was found at the local Scrap yard for $1.35. The Pulley attachment came from a old sickle mower from years ago. Last night I decided to make an attachment to the draw bar with a receiver tube. This way I can use any of my hitches on the JD. Then it hit me.. be nice to have an attachment for power the saw, the cement mixer and a fan I found not to long ago that runs off a v-belt as well. First cut was with a simple yellow rope for the belt and it tore thru a 4x4 piece of green red oak in no time. Now to find a proper belt and sharpen the blade. 20121211_154853.jpg

I appreciated the power beyond descriptions. I purchased a kit a while back for my 4100 and just finished installing. Looking forward to replacing the top link and one 3pt arm with cylinders to put a nice edge on my driveway. When I finally found a kit the dealer also had a used Hydraulic Block for the kit conversion. From what I can tell all that someone would need would be a few of the elbows and hose to make another power beyond conversion. Since I already have one on my machine would anybody be interested in the used power beyond Hydraulic Block? Its clean and includes the installation instructions. I may try selling it on Ebay otherwise.

Now I need some insight from my fellow 4100's. A few days ago. I had a low tire...pulled into the shop..raised up with the bucket ( tilting it down to free up the front wheel) aired up and as I went to toss the hose outta the way I noticed oil spewing from the hose coming from the top of the valve cover. I did a fast shut down and leveled the 4100 off.. Let set for an hour and check the oil. The dipstick is showing the oil level 3 inches over the hash marks and I have aired my tires up this way for years. I let it set for a solid day..drained and changed the oil and filter thinking a stopped up filter.. it did not spew as much but it is still steaming it out heavily. Any ideas? There has been no loss of power until it really warms up..none showing in the coolant system either. Perhaps a gobbed up oil pump?
