Several TBN members are not into building, but have it delivered and dropped in the perfect spot to use. Most are delivered within 50 miles for free delivery.
A 8x20 runs $1,800 to $2,400.

8x20 deep.

I'm arguing with the city/county building department about placing a pair of 30-ft shipping containers with side doors, 24-ft apart on a raised concrete foundation, then roofing over the gap and installing a metal roof system. The code explicitly forbids them, but being a licensed engineer, I have the legal right to go outside code. Their big objection is they are ugly. My argument is when I sheath them with LP Smart siding, they will look fine. And, it is the least expensive way to get a rodent proof, highly fire resistant structure. Working on drawing it up, so I can do architectural renderings.

.If we took the techniques used in mobile home manufacturing and made standardized modules using quality components, we might be able to get the cost of homes down a little, get them built better and more quickly than now.
What you describe is a panelized house.

Back in the 90s, I visited a factory near Sacramento that was building panelized houses. Walls were built in a jig to standards that were higher than manufactured houses. But still 2x6 wood frame with wooden siding. The nearly-finished walls were trucked to the site and nailed together.

Around that time, I found a builder for a local friend to build his new house that way. After it was done, the builder said is was kind of a wash in terms of cost and speed. Framing a house might be 10% of the building effort after all.

Yeah, most houses in the US are built (framed) like they were 100+ years ago. Small changes in framing did happen: platform-framing instead balloon-framing around the turn of the 20th century. Plywood replaced planks after WW2. 2x6s now, instead of 2x4s for more insulation. Not exactly built to last.
