Kubota BX22 TLB
I was wondering if any of you have had success childproofing your tractors. I always put the implements down and release hydraulic pressure when I'm not using the machine - that's not really my issue.

The problem is that the new BX22 tractor is a **constant** magnet to my 4 year old, and he is getting on the machine and turning on the hazard flashers (which don't require the key to turn on). It seems he's not-so-good at turning them back off. #$%@!

I looked under the dash and it looks like that circuit (and all the others) come directly off the back of the key switch (no easy reroute to the 'key on' side of the switch without cutting up the wiring harness). I either need to move that circuit or cut off the battery completely when it's not in use.

On my boat, I added a large red battery switch which is locked in the bilge to keep them from playing with the trim switch on the back of the motor...but there's no room for a switch that size on the Kubota.

Any ideas?

How difficult would it be to pull your battery ground cable when the machine isn't in use?

A variation of Roy's suggestion...Install a quick connect for the battery cables. Then you wont have to use a wrench to connect/disconnect.

Here is a photo of the switch I have used on several projects, like RV's, Boats, And tractors.

It is a batttery disconect switch made by Hella of Germany, sold by most auto parts stores, Boat supply stores etc.

It will handle 1000 amps at 12 Volts and is 2" in diameter and 3 inches tall without the key inserted.

It should fit several places on the BX series.

It might not stop a determined thief, but it will slow them down, and should keep a child from playing with the electrical system.

This is what I use on my old cars. Rather than a key, the green part just screws in and makes the connection. Best part of it is that it attaches to the battery post and then the ground wire attaches to it making cutting of the gound cable unnecessary. You can either slightly unscrew the green part or remove it completely. Here's a link to one.

I like the idea of a disconnect switch, but all this talk of switches brings another image to mind. Much as it breaks my heart to do so, sometimes the little fellas need a small reminder for their own good. Then we can reason and explain.

Just two cents.

Wouldn't be without my children. Life wouldn"t be the same. You might want to either put an inline toggle switch under the dash, or just tap in on the "on" side of the key switch with an inline connector you can get at any auto parts store. There is also a waterproof crimp connector with heat shrink tubing on the ends to make it more waterproof. Might want to check with local bodyshop to see if the might have one or who they buy their supplies from. Had to do that on my B6200 cause kids are just worth the "trouble".

You could get a relay and control it from the ignition switch.

The auto parts stores have kits for fog/driving lights. You could buy one of those or look at how they are put together and cobble up your own.
