Can someone please tell me why my landscaping trailer's driver-side rear wheel locks up moving forward, however, does not backward? I tried replacing the 12V battery the other day after leering that there WAS one, only to have the trailer rendered immobile. I changed the battery back after this thinking that maybe the problem would remedy itself. It did not. Is there a reset button someplace? Need I mention that the break-away switch box was broken both before and after? Where in Houston might I buy one of these and approx. how much?

Theres a problem with that wheels brakes. Trailer brakes only work while moving forward so thats why it doesn't lock up in reverse. It could be a bad break-a-way switch but I would pull off that wheels brake and check the shoes and test the magnet. If you need a new break-a-way switch, check online. My favorite trailer parts site is etrailer.com.

Thank you, (Mr.(?)) Dmace. I have been anticipating a reply to my thread, as it was my first ever. I'm thirty years old and manage a small crew of men whose knowledge in that field consists of only what they've learned from me. I will take your advice and then pas along what I learn. I appreciate your help. Have a good weekend. (I will let u know how it turns out, as well)

Should be able to find the break-away parts at any trailer supply store. Even NEPA would probably have the parts.

I would check all the brakes. The issue may be the drivers side brake is grabbing OR the passenger side brake is not working. Or both...

How old is the trailer, and how many miles are on it? When was the last time the brakes were adjusted, and the wheel bearing cleaned/repacked?

The Dexter axle/brake book for my flatbed trailer and my 5th wheel RV trailer recomends the bearings be removed, cleaned, and repacked yearly or at 12,000 miles, whichever comes first. The brakes get adjusted every 3000 miles....

Look at page 13-17. Then 47-54...

etrailer.com - Products break away kit

My 2011 sure-trac 7-14 works in reverse. If controller is set too high it will lock all four wheels in reverse, jerk the truck to a stop, and push the rear of the truck up

tractor supply carries dexter parts.. has the battery box, charge regulator , wire adapters for lamps and break away kits.

I agree.. sounds like a break / battery issue... something engaging...
