Aggravating McAfee popup

I will be reading a long story or watching a long video and when I start getting close to the end, this McAfee popup comes on my screen blocking it. There is no way to get it off except hitting control, alt, delete and using Task Manager to close the browser. Then you have to restart the browser and start over at the beginning at whatever you were doing.

I have good virus protection on my computer and have never had any problem with viruses since I installed it a few years ago. I have never had McAfee on this computer. I'm wondering how I can prevent this from popping up again.

Pretty sure it is browser installed popup notification app that self installs on various browsers. Several different variant out there. Here is one common variant removal.

This is a push notification to your browser. What are you using? Chrome, Firefox.........you'll need to reset the push notification settings for your brand of web browser. Go to Settings and search for notification and block any new request for notifications, remove the current ones.

If you hover over the "scan" button BUT DON'T CLICK ON IT, is there a web address that appears in the corner of your screen?

I'm thinking they are trying to trick you into going to a site where a hacker tries to get into your pc, or they spoof a McAffee site and try to trick you into "scanning" your PC.

Sounds like you picked up some malware.

The popups will continue on your PC until you find and root out the malware you've been infected with. Quite a few antivirus programs will not find and root out ALL malware.

Your computer is infected with malware, as others have said. If you're not comfortable eliminating it yourself, I'd call a local computer shop to assist.

I'd get a pro to remove that if you aren't confident. Looks like malware to me, no way would I click that. It screams scam.

I searched my computer and can not find Lan01.bid on it.

I am using Edge. I turned off all the notifications ecept a few that I trust completely.

Before I install any new virus or malware protections, I will use it a few days and see if I get that popup again.
