I watched 2 shows on the discovery channel a while back. The first one was about global warming and how the end was near. The second one was about the next ice age that was coming. The second show even stated that nothing could stop the next ice age and global warming would only serve to slow it down a little. Two conflicting scientific opinions on the same channel back to back. I don't think it was intentional, but, it made me laugh

I didn't see the shows, so I'm just speculating, but no one says global warming will last forever. As has been stated many times here and in numerous other threads on this topic, Earth's temperature varies dramatically over geologic time frames, due to causes beyond Man's control. The current warming trend won't last forever, no matter what we do. It may only last long enough to do us in, which, all-in-all, is more than long enough for me. So, yes, there will be another "ice age". We may not care, since we may not be here.

very interesting topic.........glad that it has been very civil.......

i know we do things that can/will damage our environment.....dump used motor oil on the ground, chemicals, etc.......

but, global warming doesn't make any sense to me- at least from the perspective of those preaching it to us.......i'm very conservative and i just don't have a lot of respect for those (politicians and celebrities) that tell us what we should believe....

it really does seem to me that there is a concerted effort by the media, colleges, many politicians, etc. to put a muzzle on any other point of veiw......i'm open to anything that looks realistic, but not when hollywood's people come out of the wood work....it really is like a cult/religion.....kind of the trendy thing, it seems.....

i dunno......

. The issue to me is not whether we have an effect on our surroundings, it is rather, how our surroundings will react to put things back into balance. This earth has been around for billions of years before we were here and has survived worse threats than us.
It is said not to underestimate the will of life, that it will always find a way. You can believe that the earth will not cease to exist due to our actions.
Mark

Could't have been said better!!

Questions.. Does CO2 get eaten up by trees and green plants? If so, why wouldn't the plants grow real big and eat this stuff up? Thus, as you mention, things balance back in place?

If I got this right, in 29 words everyone now knows there is nothing to worry about. If I'm wrong, let the record show I'm doing as good as many experts on subject. It only took me 29 words to be wrong.

Cheers

The evidence is clear , we are the most polluting , careless species on the planet . But i think the warming of the planet has been happening for 10,000 years , since the last ice age . It could be a galactic seasonal thing that happens every X thousand years , who knows ? We are riding on a rotating spiral galaxy , with a Nuclear Reactor at it's core . I would think it would be unusual if we had a perfect equilibrium with no change as we go round .

what really intrigues me, is that when you look at the big picture, we live in a very fine sliver of temperature range....or, well, we like to, and the earth thrives in the narrow spectrum........1 or 2 degrees and we think the world is coming to an end...

look at the temps in space......very extreme.....

the earth is placed just right for earth to thrive.....any slight change and we (most plants and animals) would be gone in a heartbeat....

on a micro scale, look at how we have climate control in our homes/etc.....take an office full of people, for example, vary the temp just one degree and you have just as many complain, as those that "thank goodness"

and there's much more to it, i'm just throwing it out there......

no, cattle farms and pig farms have us beat!;)

just kidding, i'm not serious before everyone freaks out......being a conservative, i do believe we waste WAY too much....i think recycling makes a lot of sense......why just bury plastic in the ground and leave it for others to deal with......heck we throw out more stuff, use more trash bags, waste left-over food, as the next.......i hate taking my trash out every weeks......it isn't anything for us to have 6-10 white kitchen bags a week.....just junk mail, boxes that things are shipped in, you name it......wasted

i used to dump oil on the ground, i don't any more......i just don't feel right about it.....now if i spill it on accident, i don't lose any sleep.....

and there's others....

One major league volcano puts our best efforts to shame. There hasn't been one in our lifetime, but there are several in recorded history that make us look puny.
