I suspect most of the 3 cylinder diesels, as in the BX 1800 & 2200, idle relatively smooth. I haven’t actually seen one of these running but based on other 3 cylinder diesels I have observed.
On the other hand, two cylinder diesels I have observed (BX1500 included) idle very rough and if you were not aware that this is normal you might think something was not right with the engine. They are pretty smooth at higher RPM’s though. I believe this is also the reason the 1500 has that large chunk of iron bolted to the top of the engine that the 1800 & 2200 3 cylinders don’t have. It is supposed to dampen the vibration somehow.
Does anyone know exactly how it is supposed to work?
I know the air cleaner bracket has broken on all models of the BX, I was just saying it doesn’t surprise me much on the rough idling BX 1500. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
