Air Cleaner Strap on BX

I suspect most of the 3 cylinder diesels, as in the BX 1800 & 2200, idle relatively smooth. I haven’t actually seen one of these running but based on other 3 cylinder diesels I have observed.
On the other hand, two cylinder diesels I have observed (BX1500 included) idle very rough and if you were not aware that this is normal you might think something was not right with the engine. They are pretty smooth at higher RPM’s though. I believe this is also the reason the 1500 has that large chunk of iron bolted to the top of the engine that the 1800 & 2200 3 cylinders don’t have. It is supposed to dampen the vibration somehow.
Does anyone know exactly how it is supposed to work?

I know the air cleaner bracket has broken on all models of the BX, I was just saying it doesn’t surprise me much on the rough idling BX 1500. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I noticed my strap had broke on my BX-22 at around 45 hours. I didn't have it fixed until around 95 hours when I took it in for other work. I have not had many troubles, here is a list of what I had the dealer repair.
1. 1 bolt holds the seat on to the swivel plate(BX-22) which had came off and lost the 4 plastic discs.(replaced)
2. Air cleaner strap broke.(replaced)
3. MMM drops about 2 inches overnight, they didn't fix this and said it can drift sometimes and the BX22 only has 1 pump running all the hydraulics. I didn't like that answer and may have it in again.
4. Rust on frame around a bolt about the size of a half dollar, (sanded and painted.)
5. Lever that lowers MMM would stay in the down position( they adjusted)
6. Fuel tank was leaking at same spot others have had the trouble. ( they replaced the entire tank because they said a part was broke inside the tank, IMO they may have broke it when installing the kit, nevertheless they fixed it, just took 2 more days to get the tractor back waiting on the tank.)

My BX2200 strap broke at about 50 hours, the angle on the metal strap was bent too sharp, I replaced the metal strap with a piece of trailer tie down strap, did not bend it quite as sharp and it has lasted almost two years and 300 more hours.
Took about 10 minutes to make and install it.

The strap breaks quite often, mine did and was replaced, though I installed the new strap myself, I had the strap sent to me. I believe that there has been a modification in the newer models to prevent this.

I think you may be expecting too much of your hydraulic system. My MMM will bleed down until it hits the mechanical stop (mower height adjustment), if not overnight, for sure in a few days. As long as it doesn’t drop while the engine is running, or immediately after shutting it off, I don’t think it is a problem.

The one on my BX22 broke at 120 hrs. I called my dealer for a new one, but was told I would need to bring the tractor to them so they could install it (30 miles). They told me I was welcome to buy one if I wanted to install it on my own. Needles to say, I fixed it with a couple heavy-duty tiewraps myself. I am not so happy with the dealer.

If that were my dealer, they wouldn't be my dealer any longer. I would contact Kubota directly and tell them about the poor service you received. I can see them doing that if the repair required a lot of technical work, but not for a simple part. My dealer has already sent me parts and I just send the defective part back to them after the repair is done.

My dealer is the same way, they'll give me any parts I need and I'll give them back the defective ones when I'm done. Of course, that was when I was in warranty, now i gotta buy em. Unless of course I move up now...I hear nice things about the 7510..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mine broke on my BX22 shortly after I got the tractor. My dealer sent me a complete upgraded mounting kit for the air cleaner. It consisted of two new brackets that bolt to the engine, a different heavier style strap and a rubber liner to go inside the strap to protect the air filter case. All I had to do was send him back the broken strap and other old mounting hardware. I think I still have the part number of the kit written down somewhere at home. I'll look tonight.
