Air Cleaner Strap on BX

/ Air Cleaner Strap on BX #21
I believe that part number (K2561-82170) may come back listed as a Washer, Support. It's a rectangular washer with two holes that mounts on each side of the air cleaner band. My dealer told me that this was the first attempt at fixing the problem. He said early BX's did not have the washers but later ones had them factory installed. Mine had the washers and the band still broke.

There is a heavy duty kit to replace everything. That is what my dealer got and sent to me. I don't have a scanner so I'll type out what my kit consisted of.

Top of the instruction sheet said:
Bracket, Kit (Air Cleaner) K2561-98211 for Kubota Tractor BX2200D

There was an orange label on the box which read:
Kubota Manufacturing of America and had the following numbers on it:
K2561-98210
KMA Part K2561-98211

Kit consisted of the following:

K2561-8218-0 Stay (Air Cleaner,1)
K2561-8219-0 Stay (Air Cleaner,2)
15371-1125-2 Band, Air Cleaner
PA505-7316-0 Collar
15371-1187-0 Cushion
01123-50820 Bolt, SEMS
01123-50870 Bolt, SEMS
02751-50080 Nut, Flange
K2561-9822-0 Installation, Manual

Probably more information than you wanted to know. Hope this helps someone out.... Dave.

Geez, thanks for the parts numbers.

My first attempt to get the dealer to give me the replacement parts was unsuccessful ----but it was Saturday & the service manager was not available. The canned reply was that warranty work had to be done by an authorized dealer.

I'll give the service manager a try before I throw a tantrum with Kubota. I've been using the tractor hard since I noticed the broken strap. I did finally wrap a wire around the canister to hold it in place.

Seems to me that metal strap design is approaching overkill just to hold the air cleaner in place. Looks like there ought to be a better way.

If the dealer doesn't want to send you the part, then ask them to send someone over to your place to repair it... I know that the warranty says that you are responsible for delivering the tractor to the dealer for warranty service, but I think that somewhere "reasonableness" should be in the fine pring....

Timely Post. I have over 200 hours on my bx2200 and mine broke about 2 weeks ago. Picked up the new part yesterday. Just haven't put it on yet. K2561-98211 like others have said.

I did a temp fix with cable ties after I made a trip to the dealer and found out they had the wrong model part a few weeks ago and had to order one.

I would be really upset if I was told I had to take the tractor in for this repair. I would like to know if the dealer charges for putting on this part? Is it something like the part is free but you have to pay to have it installed?

Not sure but probably what happens is the dealer gets paid by kubota for giving me the part because he says he installed it.

The replacement part is pretty heavy duty.

Beats the engineered sheet metal strap that was stock.

I have read a few posts on the board regarding this dealer, and I don't remember many of them being particularly positive. They are MB Tractor in Plaistow, NH. I am disclosing the dealer's identity because I think the service man was dishonest with me. He told me that the owner will not allow customers to install parts on their own equipment while under warrantee, and that's the way Kubota wants them to do it.

My strap broke on my BX22, so I called the dealer with the info from this thread. The service mgr didn't know what a BX22 was, so we didn't get off to a good start. He said he'd have to "look into" the strap upgrade situation and, "if I'm correct", parts should call me when it comes in. I asked if they could ship the upgrade to me since I'm 70mi away and he said I'd have to pay for shipping. Does this sound appropriate or should I contact Kubota about being charged for shipping warranty parts?

It is our responsibility as Owners to take the thing back to the Dealer...Hence, I would pay for the shipping if it saved me a 70 mile drive one-way.

considering that the dealer is going to get paid labor for the installation that you are going to do, it is reasonable that the dealer pay for the shipping..... either way, the shipping shouldn't be more than $10.00. I would have to believe that the dealer would want to absorb the shipping just to keep a customer happy..... after all, you just spent $18,000 + to buy it from him!!!!!!

Thx for replies. Seems like the dealer would want to keep an obvious customer happy by absorbing shipping costs. When I took delivery on the tractor it was missing a 3ph arm, so they immediately shipped one to me. No charge. In this case, I've had it for a year or so and they seem a little uncertain about the strap issue (not to mention the tractor!). I may call the store mgr to verify policy that customer pays for shipping charges on warranty items.

Is a broke strap something that I also have to look forward to, because my tractor was delivered with 2 left 3 pt hitch arms and not the adjustable right hand one..... /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
