Allergies! Man they're hitting me hard!

I have zero alergies, had a skin test once when they were trying to diagnose something else and it came up zero so they injected 200 allergens under my skin and still no reactions, they looked baffled I laughed and puffed my chest out. My sister though, she's alergic to the entire planet. I notice she gets a cold and flu about every 2-3 months where I go 3-4 years without one. She's suffering now here in the Pacific Northwest.

Wife and I tried the neti pot and it didn't do any good, I am glad it works for others. I often wear a mask even in our cab tractors.

I'm not really sure how much difference there is, but a few years ago my doctor told me to use NeilMed Sinus Rinse and it's pretty good stuff when needed. Fortunately, I've pretty rarely needed it.

Allegra saves me much misery.
Rye grass and wheat when it heads out rips me a new one.

Word of advice, don't drink beer all day at a crawfish cooking, get smacked down by an allergy attack, and wash down two Benadryls with a Budweiser.
You end up sitting in a folding chair staring at the ground drooling on yourself. Sneezing stops but embarrassing pictures last perpetually.

Well, I didn't take any Benadryl, but the most beer I ever drank in one day was the first time we went to visit friends in Baton Rouge and we boiled 51 pounds of crawfish and drank beer from about 10 a.m. to midnight that night. After we finished that 51 pounds of crawfish, our hostess went in and fried a bunch of crawfish tails they already had peeled for supper. And that will always remain the most beer I ever drank in one day, 'cause that ain't gonna happen again.

I don't know what we used, I will check with my wife. Allergy shots are what finally helped her, I may have to check into it as I often can't do much outside without paying a heavy price for it.

You know allergies are really weird things. They can come and go without explanation. About 1962-63 I was working an evening shift in the post office. Now I remember my maternal grandfather getting off work around midnight and my grandmother always made him a "breakfast" when he got home; bacon, eggs, toast or biscuits. I was single at the time, but got in the same habit. I'd get home from work, shower, have some eggs, and go to bed. Within an hour I'd wake up, broken out in big whelps, not just bumps, but whelps all over like I'd been hit with a belt and itch almost beyond endurance. And after a couple of hours, it'd go away. So I finally went to the doctor and he said I must be allergic to something (brilliant, right?) and that he could do some tests for about $300 (I was making less than $500 a month) or I could experiment on my own. Sure enough, I quit eating eggs and I had no problem. But then one night I had a couple of eggs and a very miserable night. So I quit eating eggs for a couple of years, went back to eating them and no more problem.

Then, on July 9, 1990, we were in Anchorage in the RV and about 1 a.m. that morning, I work up breaking out in hives and itching so bad I could hardly stand it. I tried getting in a tub of hot water, then using Lanacane to stop the itching. I also started getting quite a headache, so at 1:30 a.m., I went to Humana Hospital. They gave me a shot and 2 prescriptions, and everything was OK.

On August 19, 1995, I woke up with some swelling under my eyes that morning; possibly an allergic reaction, but I spent about 2 hours with the string trimmer, then the rest of the day with the brush hog on the little Kubota. The next day, Sunday, my whole face was swollen thiat morning; right eye nearly closed, and a crusty, yellow substance started to form on my cheeks. I finally went to the emergency room in Corsicana and they gave me 5 pills there and three prescriptions. The doctor said it was an allergic reaction to something, with an infection starting on top of that. Obviously right, but allergic to what . . . I have no idea. It cleared up and hasn't happened again.

You just never know when an allergy may come or go.

You can also become allergic to products you have used for years with no problems. Several years ago my BIL became allergic to Ivory Liquid dish detergent. The entire family had been using it for many years. But he could no longer use it at all.

That may be happening to me as I grew up farming on open station tractors, bucking hay chopping cotton, clearing brush etc. and used open station tractors to cut ragweed and all sorts of weeds and grass without any real problems then last year I started having problems and they are worse this year. I am sixty-five so I attributed it to getting old, but my wife has far less problems now than when she was younger. I guess I will have to go to an allergist to get some testing.

That sure sounded like that was a memorable occasion. Hushpuppies would have been good with that Feast.:licking:

Jerry, today being our 48th wedding anniversary, we're going to Pappadeaux. My wife will want fried fish and/or shrimp, but I'll have the Crawfish Platter with crawfish etouffee and fried crawfish.

But we'll both be drinking unsweetened iced tea.
