Allergies! Man they're hitting me hard!

I'm allergic to two full pages of goodies. My Dr said that I was in the top 10% of those with the most allergies. I Have consumed a pharmacy of benadryl, allegra, claritin, dose packs of prednisone, etc etc, had two surgeries, did the shots...twice.

After all of that and years of misery I found one thing that works and works consistently...Mometasone which is generic Nasonex, which is a topical steroid. Nasonex is $60 a bottle here so I buy from Canada which is $25 a bottle. Two puffs a day in each nostril kicks 99% of my problem during season which is from early April to November. Nothing in my 55 years has worked so well for so long.....going on 7ish years now.

In the late 60 s was tested for allergy problems 200 plus items and tested positive to all. In the spring would have attacks that would put me in bed for two days. The doctor put me on shots and successfully me the problem from spring to fall. In later years some springs are worse than others then fall can be a killer. Only true relief is winter. Each year is different as your body changes and reacts to different pollens different ways. When under a good attack can soak a paper towel in five minutes

Jerry, today being our 48th wedding anniversary, we're going to Pappadeaux. My wife will want fried fish and/or shrimp, but I'll have the Crawfish Platter with crawfish etouffee and fried crawfish.

But we'll both be drinking unsweetened iced tea.

Bird......that is great! 48 years is really something to celebrate. Congrats to you and your wife......I wish you the very best for many years to come!

I've had a problem with excessive drainage down the back of my throat for years. Doc tested me for everything under the sun; not allergic to any of them. He called it "Non-allergic rhinitis." He put me on claritin, nasal sprays, some kind of puff stuff in a round disc, etc., etc. Nothing worked, I finally got off the Claritin a few years ago, it does no good either. Some products with a "D" after the name will dry me up temporarily, but that's against my blood pressure, so can't use 'em. Now I just use a saline nasal spray once in a while. Doesn't matter what the season or what the weather, or what's gorwing - stays the same year 'round. Guess I will have it from now on.

I had really bad problems in February and March, but lately I've been fine. I'm taking several meds regularly including Cetirizine, Spiriva, Advair, and a nasal spray called Astepro. The Spiriva and Advair are supposed to help with my mild COPD, but they also help general lung health. Even so, this time of year my eyes sting and itch. It seems I take spring allergies a lot better than winter weather.

It took allergy shots for 28 years. I take Flonase and Cetirizine daily. When it gets bad in the evening I will take Benadryl which helps but makes me sleepy. The Astepro 15% antihistamine spray is the last resort and I find it to be very effective. I take alot more medicine since I stopped the shots than I did while taking them.

One thing I do that really helps is daily nasal irrigation with Waterpic/Grossan adapter. I pump 16 oz of warm water with 1 teaspoon of salt and 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda dissolved in it. This is especially helpful after mowing - all kinds of stuff comes out of there. The main thing is you are washing out the various pollens and other stuff you are alleregic to. Helps in preventing sinus infections too.

Regarding the use of Neti pots, a few years ago two people died using them because a protazoa was in the water. Course, you got better odds of winning the lottery than dying from a Neti pot.:laughing::laughing:

How Not to Die Using a Neti Pot - Forbes

I am lucky, knock on wood, in that I am no bothered by allergies like other people. Worse case I might sneeze a bit and get a scratchy throat. I will wear a very nice mask, one I paid $30ish for years ago when I was ripping out dry wall, when I mow and there is heavy pollen and we have not had rain. I once was cutting sapling in the height of pollen season and we had no rain. The pollen was all in my lungs and sinuses and it was UGLY. The coughing and retching was horrible. If we have heavy pollen and no rain I wear that mask. I don't care what I look like and breathing is important.:laughing::laughing:

Later,
Dan

I don't use a neti pot but the water I used for irrigation is only distilled water, heated in the microwave.

Well, I didn't take any Benadryl, but the most beer I ever drank in one day was the first time we went to visit friends in Baton Rouge and we boiled 51 pounds of crawfish and drank beer from about 10 a.m. to midnight that night. After we finished that 51 pounds of crawfish, our hostess went in and fried a bunch of crawfish tails they already had peeled for supper. And that will always remain the most beer I ever drank in one day, 'cause that ain't gonna happen again.

Most beer I ever drank was at my sister in law's Catholic wedding reception. i think the only one that outdid me was the priest who performed the ceremony. That was only husband number 1 out of 4. She is here visiting, so I hope she doesn't read this. Nowadays I put away maybe a 6-pack a year, but actually I carry a 6-pack around in the trunk of my car (hot) and only use it for cooking brats.

Yeah, I think it's been a couple of years since I bought a 6-pack and I finished the last one after a hot day of mowing last summer. However . . ., I did have a couple of glasses of Shiner Bock with my crawfish yesterday.
