Alligator Attacks Our Tractor

Indeed, that's why I made those comments. We have tons of coyotes out here and the occaisonal bear and I've seen lion tracks but never seen one on the property. But in perspective, we have a good sized Lab that makes us aware when they are snooping around and she chases them off or they avoid us. It seems gators would not be like that? I'd be afraid one of them big gators would eat the dog instead?

Occasionally a mountain lion is sighted here in the North Valley, but so far I haven't seen one myself.

My son and I were hiking the trails in Whiting Ranch Park when I lived in Orange County (Aliso Viejo) a few years ago. A few days after we were there a guy on a mountain bike was killed by a cougar on one of the trails in the park. The same cat attacked two women a few hours later, mauling one in the face pretty bad. The game wardens shot the cat later in the day as it was returning to its kill. That's as close as I care to get to one of those critters.

OK Rob, thats not the cat that I saw ! Im thinkin I dont know my cats very well What I saw was all black The darned thing leaped clear across the road, granted not an interstate, but a road just the same ! Looks like it was close to that size of course Im not sure about that either because it was quite a distance away. Anyways thanks for posting the pics, and uncovering my ignorance

I'll let you know what I think in four years. Romney did try to remove the tolls way before the elction. It was not a last minute affair. He also wanted to combine certain groups in the state to reduce overhead costs and duplication and was shot down on that issue also. I think it was when they finally combined the enviornmental police and the state police together, not sure.

I remember reading about that. I live about 35 miles from there. Once, while playing golf at Dove Canyon, we saw a mountain lion on the 18th tee box!!! At our property, we have reason to believe a mountain lion has taken up residence in the ravine on our property. We and our neighbors have seen it several times now.

Scotty, that large cat you saw may have been a black (Melanistic varient) mountain lion? Very rare but happens. Something like black leopards.

Hi Scott,
To be fair about it I was maybe 200 yds maybe more away, it was going across a tree lined lane and it was at the end of the day. Maybe it was a bobcat that looked black from the distance I was away from the animal. I wouldnt bet my paycheck on any of this ! The one part of my story will stand in my mind anyway, and thats the part of this animal leaping across the lane !!! No dog that I know of can do that, nor move that quickly !

Man that was about the most lopsided game I can recall. The underdogs (undergators?) certainly had themselves a fine night. I feel sad for the poor Buckeyes though, other than the opening kick off it was a rather ignoble end to an otherwise stellar season.

Other than that opening drive by Ohio it was pretty much a done deal ! Those Gators were amazingly good ! Congrats to the Gators they earned #1 !!!

Geez...that is even more interesting! Out West we never even think about that. I've heard some ranches losing cattle to bears or lions...even coyotes, but never gators!
Do you have small children? They must be a danger to youngins, especially those big suckers?

My Grandparents had a friend that drove heavy euquipment. In the '70's, he worked the Auburn Dam site(Dam was never finished, big political and earthquake issues), only minutes from where TBN member _RAT_ lives.

Anyways, he operated dozers. They had problems doing initial brush removal and grading, where the tracks on the Cat would turn up rattlers and toss them up on the tractor He never got bit, but had some jumpy moments.

He also caught HUGE catfish with his Cat. They would divert the American river, and then fill in the old channel. When they filled up these remianing pools, there'd be big old ancient great great grandaddy catfish flopping around in the mud. I saw a couple of them; they were HUGE!.
