I have been looking at buying a tractor for some time, putting it off more times than once, coal shovel starting to get old now though. I really don't know alot about tractors, but this forum has helped tremendously. Thanks to Everybody. I have looked at bx22 $15650 with belly mower. John deer 790 $21,500 backfoe/loader, and now b7800 $20,000 bl4690 with bracket for subframe/ loader 60mmm mower. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Almost went today to order 7800. (big step for me) Mayby tommorrow. Any one else lost this much sleep reading this chat line? /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Whatcha gonna do with the tractor the most? How land are you taking care of with the tractor. There's a few tractors in between the BX22 and B7800.

Shane, welcome to the forum.

Back in 2000 when I started looking, the BX22 and B7800 weren't out yet. Since I had convinced myself I wanted a backhoe, and for a variety reasons chose orange, that meant a B7500, B2410, B2710 or B2910. When push came to shove and I looked at all that money on the table, I felt the B2910 with the 7 1/2' backhoe (I got a Woods 7500) was the most bang for the buck.

I opted for the B2910 over the B2710 for some of the creature comforts, and I'm glad I got them. The telescopic lower links sure make hooking up implements a relatively painless task, and the suspension seat is also well worth it if you have any back problems. I have sometimes used the cruise control to "brake steer" when using the bucket for snow removal.

For me, I figured the extra few $$$ between the B2910 and the B2710 (and now the B7800) are well worth it over the life expectancy of the tractor.

Before you sign on the dotted line, I would at least get a quote on the same package with a B2910.

Whatever you get, it'll sure beat a shovel!

Good Luck,

~Rick

I am toying over the same problem, for right now the BX22 will do, but down the road with a new house and large land I might want a larger tractor? Im glad Im not the only one with these questions/problems.

You've got a pretty broad range of models listed there. If you're doing a lot of mowing, I hear the BX series is top notch. If you want to do a lot of digging, the B7800 would probably be better, although for that kind of $$$ you really should check out the slightly larger tractors. Can't give you much advice on the JD (don't know the models), but what I found is that for equivilant models the JD was a bit more $$$.

Best question so far is, "what are you going to do with it?"

I live on a hill with about 33 acres mostly hillside 900 foot of drive, 1500 feet or more of ditches to keep clean. Need to dig a water line up the drive. maby 3 acres to mow. gravel parking lot to grade.like to have a garden as well. Snow removal for winter time. I guess that is just a start. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

They told me the 2910 would be about $1400 more. I have already jump up quit a bit from the bx22, don't know if I can stand much more. (or should I say wife). I also need to fill in my yard more and redig some septic lines.

b7800 $20,000 bl4690 with bracket for subframe/ loader 60mmm mower.

Wow...that sounds like a really good price for the b7800 with loader, back hoe and MMM.

Let us know if that is what it ends up being if you do get the B7800...If I remember right I paid a bit over 24K for about the same thing, but b2819 with an extra backhoe bucket and tooth bar...last summer....

I did not have the option of a subframe for the backhoe...it was a 3ph mount last year...

I hope he did'nt make a mistake. One dealer did quote 22,650 but with a 6 1/2 bushhog backhoe. I will let you know for sure.

Sounds like a good price on the 7800 package. I was quoted $23, 286 for a similarly configured package (exception was this included a Woods 6500 backhoe).

Sounds like a good price on a great package.
I have a B2910. The one item I would suggest with you B7800 is look into the 72” MMM. If there is not a clearance problems around your property. The 72” MMM is much easier to install on tractor because it is supported by caster wheels on all 4 corners. The 60” MMM has casters on the front and one rear roller at the rear with anti scalp rollers at the corners. It makes it hard to push and pull the mower in and out from under the tractor. Plus the extra 12” sure does cut down no the amount of time required to cut the lawn.
Check out Andyman's new tractor. Click Here His has the 72" MMM. The 60" mower will just clear the rear tires. This will not allow you to get close to trees and other items.

The 72 mmm is real easy to remove. What you need to do is lift the front wheels off the ground with the fel, slide one pin out of its place in the front and 2 pins in the back. The dealer and I did it yesterday, it took about 3 minutes or so. If you don't have the fel on the tractor you will have 2 more pins to remove and you are all set. Since it is on four wheels you just slide it out. Hopefully your on fairly solid ground.
One thing I did notice is when it is raised in its highest position there is lots of clearance. I'm thinking I will just leave it on.

Better check the MMM and backhoe subframe... etc to make sure it all works together.

Good point. I believe the bracket that mounts on the loader frame to accept the Woods subframe will interfere with the mounting of the Mid-mount mower. Unless they've recently changed the design.

I don't think it's a huge problem to remove/install the bracket, though I've never tried, it would probably add another 5-10 minutes when changing over from backhoe to mower...or vice versa.

For this reason, if a MMM is in your plan and you'll be changing between MMM and backhoe frequently, the Kubota hoe is a better solution in this regard.

/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gifWent to Charleston West Virginia today and they priced, 7800 4x valve 60mmm loader 60in bucket, bradco backhoe 7 1/2 R4 tires 21,500. He said he bet the other dealer made a mistake. Well a long story shot went back to other dealer and sure enough 22,985 said could come another 500. that was with kubota backhoe. Said he would talk to owner too see if he could eat some more of the price, and maby even trade for my 99 2500 cummins diesel. not even of course. The guy in west Virgia was nice and did have around 5 on the lot, in contrast to none at the other location. How is the bradco backhoe? He said they did make the kubotas. I guess I woke up to reallity. Couldnt believe difference in 3130, probably to big for me.

I will take a look at that, is it any harder to cut in tight places?

The only problem I have is with the ROP's. It is always running into tree limbs if I don't lower it. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Hi Shane

rops is "roll over protection system".

I had a bradco back hoe for my thomas skidsteer unit around 5 yrs ago. It was a VERY strong unit. I couldn't believe the # of grease fittings this unit had. Absolutely an industrial unit. I also remember them being very expensive. Mine was the bradco 9md2.

Thanks Andy, The bradco was #3375, 2700lbs digging force-bucket cylinder. The dealer said it was priced cheaper than kubota but not cheaper made, but I guess I will go with the dealer who priced the kubota backhoe fel mmm for 20,800 that saves 700 plus gives me the kubota backhoe which both dealers said was around 1200 more.
