Try running it with the wires off the alt see if it makes a difference

I’d take the belt off and try running it. Keep a close eye on the temperature gauge because you’ll have no cooling.

Cycle the glow plugs twice before you try and start it and see if that makes a diffeerence

I do doesn't seem to help , not really concern about the hard starting when temp is below 20 degree as long as it starts in a few tries ....can in stall a block heater to help in this matter. Some diesels are just hard starting ...
What concerns me is burning off the fan belt..after it starts...there are times when I need to leave tractor where I have no access to electrical power...

I do believe you should install a block heater or lower radiator hose heater. I would invest in a small Honda generator for those times when you have no power close. I'd never subject my tractor to cold, dry starts in the winter.

I live 3 miles from a main road , during times of of expected deep snow I park tractor at end of drive way don't really have room in car to carry a generator...never had trouble with last tractor.......

Guess you shouldn't get that cold in Wv. Some diesels are just a bear to start and some aren't. I've used propane weed-burners also, to heat things up some. Usually doesn't take much.

Listen real close , tractor will start at temp of 18 below zero
My trouble is alternator locking up after the longer cranking times during colder weather ...lost two belts so far ...and of course have to remove the other two belts to get t o this one.....have never had this type of trouble with any other diesels I have owned ......
