Seems like you answered your own question Andy.

Mind you, I'm probably not the person to ask on this particular subject. I tried to rationalize our vehicles a few years ago and decided to go the utiluty trailer route. So now I have two trailers, one small utility and one bigger - need something to tow the tractor, but somehow still have two pick-ups parked outside. Don't know how that happened. My masterplan got lost in the shuffle somewhere. Actually, my wife refused to let me get rid of the '91 F150 Supercab. She told me that if I was gone and she had to take the dogs to the vet, they weren't riding in her Caddy. So we have a "dogs" truck and they know that it's theirs. Rattle those keys and get out of the way because 3 guided missiles will be heading towards the back door. So I have a perfectly good truck, in excellent condition, sitting outside that hardly ever gets used but I can't get rid of it. I can't have the wife and the dogs mad at me, can I?. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

As a P.S., I can't imagine life without at least one pick-up. I just like driving them.

Bob, ofcourse he is .... just less of one!!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Speaking of which, when I bought my F350 crewcab, Powerstroke, long bed, dually, 4x4, I tried to claim it as a medical expense on my tax return but it seems the IRS didn't buy my "hormone replacement therapy" expanation. Same thing with the tractor. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Maybe someone can drive over to Walter Mondale's house and see if he has a pick-em-up-truck in his driveway?

But does he have a tractor? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
If yes, does he get together for TBN Lunch Meetings in Branson with Andy Williams and M-M-Mel Tillis? /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Re: Am i still a man if I don\'t own a pickup truck?

Andy,
I see the need for the deck on your property......it would look so nice. But I have a few questions for you.
When you need to run Allie to the vet are you going to want to put her in the wifes new Cavalier or the "old" truck? Yeah you could use the van.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
When you need to run down and get some diesel....?? Who's ENCLOSED vehicle do you want that residual smell in?
I didn't ask how close you are to your job or what you drive, but the Ranger will get better gas mileage than the van.
I love my deck and one would look good at your place but..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Maybe Heather won't let me stop by anymore....... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

edit: For the original question....? You'd be no less of a man than the one I met the other day if you sold it and built a deck

Re: Am i still a man if I don\'t own a pickup truck?

There is no question about it...... Andy will always be a man even if he rides a bicycle or a horse to work. Not only will he always be a man, he is always a GENTLEMAN! I might rib him about Walter and he is a good sport about it. Most if not all the people here don't know the old family secret.... Andy is Walter Mondale's Great Great Grandson.... Now you know the "rest of the story".... that is what the "M" stands for in his name... MONDALE..... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif It is difficult for a dyed in the wool Republican to deny his Democratic heritage.... /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

I think "M" might stand for something else.......unless he changed his name /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Re: Am i still a man if I don\'t own a pickup truck?

We received a nice tin full of cookies in the mail today from the car dealer. Already got a hat and a calendar.

I have to say this was my best new car buying experience to date.

Too bad they don't sell tractors too... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Re: Am i still a man if I don\'t own a pickup truck?

I'm reviving an old thread by accident while searching for something else...

To quote Mr. Skurka...
Funny, but I see lots of hot young girls/women driving pickups in my area. Seems to me, the smaller sized pick-ups have become ladies trucks.

My uncle used to say, "It's not a REAL truck unless you can get a 4 by 8 sheet of plywood between the wheel wells and still get the tailgate shut."

With that kind of logic, my old AMC Matador station wagon was a truck? /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif I miss that car!

Re: Am i still a man if I don\'t own a pickup truck?

I bought my first pickup back in 1967. I had just had back surgery and my surgeon said to me that the main reason that Americans had so much back problems was the seats and posture in US cars. Now I am 6'6" & 240 lbs and don't easily fit most cars. In fact I can not safely drive any of the small cars. I now drive a 1993 GMC 3/4 ton 4wd heavy duty diesel pickup with 150K miles and will keep driving it for years to come.

In 1990 my wife was in a head on collision. She was driving a Chysler New Yorker that was totalled. After 14 weeks in hospital she is doing quite well , thank God. When she was ready to start driving we bought her a 1990 GMC Suburban which we are still using. With the traffic in Houston and around here I want physics on my side. Both vehicles capabilities are used frequently every week. Fewer shopping trips with larger purchases and grouped errands help offset the added costs. We don't make a run with out shopping lists for all of our needs.

With the more up right seats and better posture, I have had a minimum of back problems since my surgery until very recently.

I will never drive anything other than a pickup as long as I can drive.

So, after several months the decision has to have been made. What did you decide to do about the Ranger? Do you still have it? How about the deck? Did the "old" van go away instead?

Inquiring minds want to know.
