They are same here in Northern Indiana. We have a large Amish community a couple counties over. They have a market here in South Bend. The doughnuts are amazing..... we call them crack doughnuts. Their other food stuffs at the market are similarly good.

However if they are selling to the public they should be expected to follow the same safety regulations as other producers.
Agree 100%
Like I said, IMO, this has nothing to do with food safety.
Plenty of people getting sick from non-amish foods, too.

Just because the author believes one way or another doesn't change the facts. Even if there is bias it doesn't mean he is wrong.

That is exactly right.

That is why it is necessary to be vigilant on food safety 24/7....outbreaks can pop up at any time.

They still have to follow government regulations. Here is a link with more information about the issue. Raw milk from the farm actually killed someone.

I get really disgusted at people who pick and choose their "religious freedom." Let their customers drive their horse and buggy up the driveway to pick up the food. That's pretty typical of food regulations. I ran a fair food booth for years that would never have passed restaurant inspection, but we could serve because people could walk up and see the food being prepared and make their own choices. They don't get to claim their "religious freedom" mandates unsafe food, then turn around and put it on a truck for interstate commerce.

Also another interesting fact is that most all the people that visited that county fair didn't drink raw milk and are on non private water systems, and they didn't get sick.
They got sick long ago and have forgotten.

this guy has made some serious errors. One was putting raw milk into the marketplace and selling it off hisfarm. It ended up in California.
I don't know what the romance is about raw milk, but there are people who think they gotta have it.
When I was a kid you still saw hunchbacks on the street, infected with bovine tuberculosis in milk when they were children. Pasteurization put an end to that.

I wonder how many people die from alcohol poisoning, cirrhosis of the liver, drunk driving, etc? per year from liquor and beer. There are liquor stores everywhere, beer in every convenience store and the government is making tons in taxes and regulates it. Then there is all the moonshine and homemade wine being made that kills as well. How many are in jail or rehab because of it? How much does this cost us as a society??

I am not against alcohol but just wanted to make a comparison about a legal, regulated product that is deadly and readily available 7 days a week. However, some farmer somewhere trying to make a living gets in trouble for raw milk. Maybe we need to set up a legal raw milk drinking age and put warning signs on it?? Drink at your own risk. Potential for you to get sick and die. Then let the adult make the decision.

I bet alcohol cost way more lives in one month than raw milk killing people over the last 50 years in this country. Where is the outrage??? Maybe the government needs to get involved and stop all these folks from poisoning themselves with alcohol and go after these liquor manufacturers???

They did it with smoking.

Hey... legal marijuana and more will just add to that...

Plenty of comparisons to be made...

to be fair it's not much of a comparison or rather one is not readily available. The public knows full well the dangers of alcohol and tobacco. "Milk is good for you" has been the message for my entire life. I have never seen a warning about listeria or bovine tuberculosis. That's because one easy process addresses it completely. Wanna sidestep that process. OK Great, keep it on the farm . Dont put the substance into the marketplace where almost no one has an inkling of any risk.

Milk is good for you isn't the message seen around here in SF for as long time... cows are bad, meat is bad, cows milk bad for humans is the message but somehow ice cream seems to get a pass.
