AMSoil Experiences with Cars & Trucks

As much as I have tried to ignore this last comment, I can't.

Making comments like this about how it is marketed has no bearing on the products performance. For your information Pyramid schemes are illegal in the USA and many other countries. Companies that operate like that do not last for 40 yrs and have companies like Wix, Donaldson, Mann Filters, Briggs & Stratton as corporate partners.

AMSOIL is a legitimate networks marketing company.

I apologize for upsetting you amsoil dealers. Amsoil, just as Amway, uses legal "multi-level marketing" instead of the illegal "pyramid scheme"; the only difference being that they do sell a product. And you're right that their marketing practices have no bearing on the product's performance.

Of course I'll bet you sometimes refuse to do business with companies who sell good products, but use sales methods you don't like.

And when I bought some Amsoil once, I later regretted it because I thought they'd never quit sending their stuff in the mail trying to get me to be a dealer.

Apology accepted.

Fyi - AMSOIL does not try to recruit dealers, they will not send dealer info to anyone who does not request it. I now because they send the leads to dealers to follow up on and the stuff you got came from an independent dealer. Granted some people can be more aggressive than others but that's how you make it in business, being aggressive. We all have had contact with aggressive salesman I am sure.

The local Cadillac Dealer I can't stand to do business with but I did not let stop for buying a Cadillac CTS. I just went elsewhere where they treated me with more respect.

I see you are from Texas. I have quite a few customers in Texas. AMSOIL also has a Distribution center in Texas employing Texans.

Company growth has prompted AMSOIL to expand five distribution centers. The expanded Edmonton and Chicago distribution centers will be opening in new locations, while the Richmond, Toronto and Dallas distribution center expansions have been completed at their current locations.

Guys,

It's time to do the gearbox fluid on my BX2360 and there are a lot of good indications that AMSoil would be an excellent choice.

I"m actually considering switching my truck and car to AMSoil as well and am interested on hearing from others that may be running this oil in their vehicles. I believe both would run a 5W-30 synthetic. Right now I am using Mobil 5W-30 synthetic in our BMW and straight 5W-30 in my truck. The car has 125K on it and the truck 50k. Both motors are in excellent condition.

Why the change? I've been fairly impressed with literature on AMSoil, and have had some great discussions with the local reps.

I run auto repair shop, have for the past 26 years. Member of iATN, International Automotive Technicians Network. Although no oil expert, very few of us are, I have learned from those that are.

The key thing to remember is it's not what brand of oil to run but to use a oil that meets the manufacturer specs. Many company's are very good at talking around this and will use terms like "suitable for" or, "for use in".

Use one that meets the specs and is the correct weight.

Many of the European cars have very specific specs. It is critical your oil meets them.

Im just posting on here so that I can keep up with this... It should go in the toilet here pretty soon..
Its always Amsoil that gets the arguement started.

Pale FX--In fact if I'm not mistaken Amsoil and Royal Purple warranty their products for a full years usage... probably with their own filters but that's still a bold move for a product??
Yea and try to collect on that Warranty......

Actually it wouldn't be hard if you were diligent and had irrefutable proof the damage or failure was due to lubrication product itself. The perceived difficulty is actually due diligence on the part of manufacturers to eliminate false claims, or better, prove legitimate liability!

More common is the lazy or ignorant person who does not address or follow up in a competent manner... (follow manufacturers instructions) using credible sources who can stand up to criticism and cross examination with accurate facts!

I agree with roygage, pay attention to the manufacturers specs!
Product preference is a losing argument! Pick one and stick with it!
I happen to like Amsoil products and I have had great experiences with the dealers I have dealt with... hand delivered to remote locations! I have never been solicited as to becoming a dealer, and I have never had equipment fail with Amsoil in it...
I also like Shell Rotella T Triple Protection , as well some Castrol products...

I use to run Amsoil in some large diesel generators I ran, 450 to 1500 amp and changed it every 200 hrs faithfully!! (didn't re-use it), I use the Shell Rotella T Triple Protection 15w40 in my 1 ton Dodge with the 12v Cummins, and will in my Kubota M7040, and I use Castrol synthetic in my wife's Hyundai... that's what works for me!

I am not an AMSOIL dealer, but have used their products since the mid seventies. I run their oil in my trucks, farm tractors and irrigation engines. This fall I pulled maintenance on my Deutz diesel air cooled irrigation engine and found I didn't have enough Amsoil for an oil change so I decided to try John Deere's Plus oil that I am using in a JD tractor that I recently leased. Once this irrigation engine is started it may runs weeks without shut down. There is a sight gauge for oil levels and I add oil as needed while it is running. The thing I noticed immediately was the need to add the JD oil frequently and I would contribute this to higher evaporation of the JD oil compared to the synthetic oil. This winter, prior to spring start up, I will switch the engine back to Amsoil.

It always seems like everyone complains about AMSOIL. Maybe its because they are a small (compared to the likes of Mobil) company located in Wisconsin or maybe its because they won't sell their products in discount stores, who knows. I happen to be a loyal AMSOIL customer and dealer for over 30 yrs. I really couldn't care less what oil people use.

People make all kinds of claims that can not be substantiated often because they are a fabrication or at best a misrepresentation of the true facts.

Admittedly Z, my experience with Amsoil was almost 20 years ago. But I took pictures of my head with the cracked valve and mailed them in when the local rep threw his hands up. Called the company as well, and was basically told it was not the oils fault but a water jacket problem where insufficient water cooling took place for excess heat to build up in the combustion chamber. I was then accused of over revving the engine when I told them I had racing engine experience and their explanation was not hitting home. I reminded them that this was a 3.9 Chrysler Corp. engine and hardly anything that one would try to build revs with.
At any rate, no one at Amsoil at the time took any responsibility for what happened to my engine which was totally their perogative but I certainly did not get my hand held on this one. Heck, I would even have accepted a more viable explanation from them. I still think synthetics are a superior lubricating product no matter who is making it and would still purchase Amsoil as this happened a long time ago. I certainly hope any warranty dealings with Amsoil go smoother now.As far as extended drain times, I think part of the problem might have to do with filter size in some engines many being just too small in my mind to clean up an extended oil that may have too many particulates in it. Id still swap synthetics out out if my vehicle had a filter that disappears if you wrap your hand around it as opposed to a filter that looks the size a half a quart of milk. Synthetics advantage for me then would not necessarily be an extended drain time as much as all the additional benefits they give over dino oil.

If you or any one else runs into a problem and thinks it's oil related. TAKE 4 oil samples, give one to the oil manufacturer, one to the equipment oem & keep the last 2 for your self, have one tested if you want. Then you would know if it was an oil related failure.
