An Amish tractor? Say what?

When I said "not hooked to a grid", I meant there was no physical connection, like a telephone or electric pole would have.

So I guess by their logic you could have a wifi router in your home as long as the broadband connection was to a gen 4 or soon gen 5 (wireless phone) data link then. Whoo Hoo Amish can now have high speed broadband in their homes as there is no connection you can see to the "grid". AND you can talk over the WIFI too as there is no grid connection. So by that totally reasonable rationalization Amish can now have phones in their homes.

Like my other post's have alluded to, Amish are hypocrites. They want to cling to a religious belief, yet they don't want to live it. That is similar to a Baptist minister preaching on Sunday about the evil's of alcohol consumption , and then going home after the service and drinking a fifth of whiskey. Then repeating that every week.

I have no problem with a religious sect being religious and having religious beliefs, but I don't think they are being very spiritual by rationalizing those same beliefs. Tell me I am wrong?

Lol... was ment to poke fun at faith a bit and wives with off-the wall ideas, guess that wasn't clearly conveyed in my haisty post... and somewhat in reference to your definition of religious and spiritual.

You'll have to excuse me, just got back from the barn... where there's a fridge... with a few empty spots for 'beverages'... today was my day off...

No need for forgiveness with you my friend. I was just giving you crap!!!! :D

Why don't you tell us how you feel James??? ;)

I totally agree.

... You can't apply common sense and logic to religious beliefs, I guess.

Or to women? :D

... matters of the heart are areas to which this applies... ask your wife for a rational explanation to things... c'mon, you guys know what I'm talking about!

I guess we had the ~same reaction to IT's 'report'. :p I 'got' yours right away. :)

I wasn't trying to make a point or argue. Just a comment.

My definition of a "Religious" man is one who does all the right things on the surface.

My definition of a "Spiritual" man is one who does all the right things on the inside.

I would like to see a dissertation from an Amish Elder explaining to me why it is OK to use a cell phone but not a landline telephone. Yes, Yes, I know, he doesn't' "owe" me anything, but it would still be fun, and who knows, maybe even enlightening. :)

Hope you understand Pennsylvania Dutch(German).

It used to be that they could have a pay phone out at the end of the driveway, but it couldn't be in the house (no monthly bill that way).
Many of the Mennonite construction guys that I know may have one, but they won't use it outside of working hours and in many cases, it gets left (plugged in to charge) in their truck (which they may own, but not have a license to drive but instead have a "English" driver who drives the crew to the job site) outside of work hours.
On the other hand, I know of a very successful Mennonite Barn builder who has a landline (with an answering machine) to his house as well as a cell phone and they get answered.
Not sure how that is kosher, but that's between him, his Bishop and The Man Upstairs.
The only real issue that we have had with him and the various jobs that his crews have done was getting a bill. In one case, they put up a pole barn in August and I eventually got his wife on the phone just before Christmas when I called his landline and explained to her that we really needed a bill before the end of the year so that we could have it as an expense on the books for this year. She said that she would make sure it was done and she did.

Whatever faith, color, gender (including 'none'), nationality, party, eye color, glove size, favorite dog breed, ... I wish I could explain more to avoid confusion.

Whomever isn't under my humble roof, and/or is anything but a welcomed guest is a MYOB acquaintance. No more, and no less. (confessed 'live and let live' nerd)

In my yet-unpublished philosophical treatise on humanity, this is reiterated in the chapter about facts of life. I see good in everybody. (ie: humans)

btw, James, when I drive/ride down to MO for that meet & greet where I can catch you AND Richard, maybe we'll go out 'after hours' for coffee and a Snickers. ;)
