Does anyone out there have any experience with Anbo Mfg's Grapple Rakes? I am curious if it is a well made unit and what tasks it is up to tackling?

I have never seen one in person, but from the looks of it on their website, I like the design. It appears as though you could grab roots of small shrubs / trees (such as youpon) at the base or just below the surface and rip them right out of the ground.

What do you all think?

Anyone have pictures of this critter in action?

I purchased one through Skid Steer Solutions.com and it's been great. Couldn't ask for any better unit. It opens real wide and works like a rake real well without taking a lot of dirt.

I have the 6' model for my L5030. It is a heavy built model, and I usually have my bush hog on to help balance the weight. It attaches with the Kubota quick attach and I can switch between my 4in1 to the grapple in less than 5 minutes.

I am Ready to order a grapple for my L-39
Anbo
http://www.anbomanufacturing.com/
Borgford
http://www.borgford.com/
or
Quick-Attach
http://www.quick-attach.com/products.cfm

Here is a comparision:

Been doing my homework.

Anbo, Quick Attach, Borgford.

Material AR-400 T-1 A514

Tooth Spacing 6", 7-3/8 to 8", 6"

Tine Shape: Longest front tooth, Middle Length, Shortest

Tine Width 5/8-1/2", 1/2", 3/4"-1"

Max opening 51.5", 47.5", 42"

Cylinder size 3", 3", 2.5"

Weight 850# 830# 680#

Width 5-1/2' 5' 5.5'

Hoses yes yes yes

Freight yes yes yes

Couplers extra extra ?
I was told by Quick Attach that they at until about two years ago they were affiliated with Bobcat.

Their grapple sure does resemble the Anbo in outward appearance.

Quick Attach claims they reduced the size slightly and beefed up the quick attach mount vs. the Anbo to make less ungainly and a better back rake tool.

The Borgford is smaller opening tool but the short front tines and smaller jaws will give me more leverage and curling force with roots and rocks. The tines are thicker but shorter and more narrow in section from a side view.

Despite the smaller jaw opening, I think the new shark tooth shape of the Borgford top jaw and slightly lighter weight would be better on my tractor. Borford Web page does not show new style shark tooth.

I imaging I would be happy with any of the three.

I want full loader function and grapple function, where the grapple can be activated with the press of the buttons located on the loader stick. This allows seamless operation of a the grapple.

A directional valve can be set up for continuous flow between the pump and the tank and handle much higher flows with less pressure drop, i.e.. less heat. This type of valve is what's typically used in the power beyond scenario. When the valve is activated the continuous flow is directed to the port that is open or closes the grapple.

Kubota makes an option Loader control for the L-39 with buttons.

Mike,

seems you really have been researching this. What have you found out on pricing of the 3 models you researched? Which particular model were you looking @ on the Quick-Attach brand?

Yes,

Almost as agonizing as buying a tractor.

Quick Attached is least expesive by $860.00 for the 5' model vs. a 5.5' Anbo. The quick_claw is the model I was looking at.

If I had a monster tractor like a full size construction TLB that

sure looks fun

I want a 5-1/2 foot grapple. The curling power of the L-39 does not compare to a skid loader. Even the lift at the pins only matches a small skid steer.

As I will be moving a lot of heavy rocks, roots and brush in thick cover and bad terrain, the smaller Borford seems like my favorite. Just wish it were the lowest cost.

For stability, I will be loading the rear tires and Foam filling the fronts.

I wish the L-39 had more weight & power, however, once most of the heavy lifting is done, it will be more than enough.
I just hate to subcontract out more than I will already have too. I would rather buy the grapple, than have a constriction machine try to do the "light" work.

Can anyone comment on the quality of the Quick Attach? I am afraid that 1/2" T1 steel will bend from side load picking up a rock incorrectly. The Quick Attach & Anbo seems to be designed to have a lot of strength to withstand front loading, Like if you ran a fast moving skid steer into an object.

When you figure it out, let me know what you decided and why. I am interested to see which one you go with.

I too like the weight factor on the Borgford, but that Quick-Attach Eagle Talon would be cool!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Mike, I'll just say I have had the AnBo 5'GRL on a Power Trac 1845 for a couple years and it has been just fine. Seems very well built (even for the "lightweight" model) and shows no signs of wear or bending even from mostly log handling and some boulders.

While there are pros and cons of the various types of grapples, this one has worked well for me.

I've got a question, what is the difference between these 3 types of steel:

AR-400, T-1 & A514?

Which is the strongest, etc., etc.???? /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

See:

I'm a mechanical engineer

The stronger AR-400 and T1 Steels are not reccomended for structral applications. They tend to be inconsistent in mechanical properties and can be brittle. Look at Strenth vs. Elongation.

Wear resistance is best with AR-400 but high shock could suprize you with these materials. AR-400 if welded properly with preheat does pretty well considering its strength.

Typical A36 mild steel is 45-50 ksi yield (36 Ksi min) So these materials are +2 to almost 4X mild steel.
