I wonder if at 1000 hours that super quiet and smoke free Cat might even be SO quiet that it will not even run.

My buddy down the road has a couple million in new JD tractors, combines and assorted stuff, all Tire 4 final and every one either has emissions issues or is having them now. I can drop by anytime and there is at least one unit in the shop with a JD Service tech working on it. I find it sad and amusing at the same time. least the local dealer provides back up machines for him. Not so much it's junk, more like not fully sorted technology and the end user gets to play Guinea pig.

Yes, and I forgot to mention: I have friends and reports from many people who have had similar grief with "brand new tractor problems" that frustrate the owners -- numerous reasons for cussing and ready to jump ship and look for a better brand or better machine -- ones that include John Deere, New Holland , and Kubota. I exclude Mahindra, Branson, LS and others simply because I have no background with them and no friends owning them. I will bet money that such reports exist with ALL brands. None are above reproach on this !

The local dealer we got the tractor from is sending their mobile tech and the technical Rep from AGCO out to my place to look a the tractor tomorrow. They had to come on site since the tractor won't start at all now and I've got no way to put it on my trailer. I talked to one of the AGCO tech guys and he seemed to know what he is talking about, he seemed to think it was some sort of computer related thing. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Good to hear. We love to snoop and hear how it goes. Hope it turns out well for you and that it happens quickly.

Dan from AGCO and Chris from the local dealer showed up as promised this morning, broke out the computer and diagnosed a bad camshaft position sensor. Of course when they got there it started for them. I cranked it for ~30 seconds the other day and it would not start for me. Anyway they did not have the part with them, but are ordering it.
Dan seemed to really know what he was doing and didn't seem to think it was a big deal to repair it. So fingers crossed this is a quick easy fix. I forgot to ask him if it is a common failure.

P.S. Both of our Czech Sheppard guard dogs seemed to like Dan and Chris so they must be nice guys.

Dogs are a good judge of character.

Glad to hear it will be a simple fix.

As to the Tier IV argument, I would rather have a new tractor with a 6 year warranty than an older machine that I may have to fix myself or have fixed. But I only have 150 hours on mine after 18 months so it is not even broken in yet. I have had two minor issues that the dealer addressed within a couple of days and he came to my place for one and trailered it 45 miles to the shop at no charge for the other. Dealer support is important for some.

Glad to hear your tractor is not terminal.

My 2009 GC2410TLB purchased new in 2009 has not been back to any Dealer and has not needed anyone to come and look at it, and I doubt my GSD would allow that...

Since so much stuff is financed, consumers should insist on clauses in the contracts, that you don't pay or are reimbursed for tech (or other) troubles. Seems to me, consumers could have much power in this regard if they organized.

Not me. I would rather have a pre 4 tractor with no electronics than a new one with, warranty or not. What do you do after the warranty expires and it needs fixed? it's not marketable at that point.

I know, trade up every 5 and take a beating on depreciation right? Reminds me of the Ford 'new every 2' commercial. Keeps the finance company in the black and your wallet empty. Myself, I don't play that game.

Bottom line is, Rudolph Diesel didn't envision his engine being choked with emissions junk.... and diesels really don't 'like' it anyway. Emissions hardware and processes add heat and heat is what kills an engine.

Both mine are Tier 3 which is no emissions what so ever. Have had zero issue with either and I farm with them and they both have thousands of meter hours on them with normal maintenance.
