I hate to say it, but I'm of a like mind... No engine issues with my 2007 2310 SCUT, but we bought a small RV for retirement that's based on a M-B Sprinter van. It's a 2015 model, with the OM642 V-6 diesel and the full complement of SCR, DPF, DEF, etc.

So far it runs great, gets great fuel mileage (about 20mpg, @ 8500 lbs).... BUT, and I mean BUT, the emission controls on this thing are a positive nightmare, and you can pretty much forget about fixing it yourself if something goes wrong with it!

I love the efficiency of diesels and I like clean air, but that's probably be the last diesel I'll buy.

My 2005 Jetta TDI wagon, OTOH, is still a real treat, I can fix it myself, and I'll probably keep it forever.... :)

Not me. I would rather have a pre 4 tractor with no electronics than a new one with, warranty or not. What do you do after the warranty expires and it needs fixed? it's not marketable at that point.

I know, trade up every 5 and take a beating on depreciation right? Reminds me of the Ford 'new every 2' commercial. Keeps the finance company in the black and your wallet empty. Myself, I don't play that game.

Bottom line is, Rudolph Diesel didn't envision his engine being choked with emissions junk.... and diesels really don't 'like' it anyway. Emissions hardware and processes add heat and heat is what kills an engine.

Both mine are Tier 3 which is no emissions what so ever. Have had zero issue with either and I farm with them and they both have thousands of meter hours on them with normal maintenance.

100% CORRECT!!!

my tractor is now 9 years old. still looks and runs like new. no real issues. and no tier4 junk

It's not really 'junk' emissions controls. More like lowest bidder components prone to fail and only last the duration of the emissions warranty (5 years) and then you are on the hook for (expensive) replacement components. Easy to understand why people do 'delete's' on them and why the government got on the bandwagon to eliminate that.

Like Kubota for example. The SCR/ muffler unit has a total life expectancy of around 3500 regens and then it's replacement time (and some units are sealed) while some can be taken apart and the element replaced / cleaned. Kubota is banking on (with 3500 regens) that the units are well out of emissions warranty which means at some point, the owner or next owner or next owner (but some owner) will be on the hook for a new component and they ain't cheap. Most likely the smaller Kubota's will never see 3500 regens but the bigger M series tractors, used for commercial farming operations will. Like me, I have 6000 hours on one of my M's. If it had SCR (it don't), I'd be in derate facing an SCR replacement (if one of the other components had not failed first). Like the now popular common rail injection. It's a complex system with lots of components that can fail. Give me the old HP injection pump and mechanical lift pump anyday.

Because both mine are pre 4, the only thing I might replace is the mufflers or a mechanical lift pump, maybe.

Sorry for the late update but I was hoping to post good news. Monday the local dealer tech came out and replaced the camshaft sensor. Engine threw a new code 723 / 08 instead of the 723 / 02 we started with. Not fixed, no real change.

Thursday the Massey rep came out with the local dealer and reset the ECU etc and did some more troubleshooting. No change, still broken. They are "expediting" a complete new engine wiring harness to swap that out. I'm not super enthusiastic at this point.

We already had our first snow of the year and instead of plowing with my new heated cab tractor I once again put on my snow suit and plowed with my 1942 Ford. :-( ****** and whine mode off*

Yi Yi Yi ! Sorry to hear that.

The bad news -- it ain't fixed. Never heard of that circumstance, but then mine is an older tractor.

The good news -- the right parties know it and know they have to fix it. Hang in there.

At least it sounds like your switch is working right, mine would be on and stuck on and gets louder as the days go by til things were fixed, but that my switch...........

We badly need a "Like" button on this forum in order to say we agree with someone. I like your comment there Oldpath05.

Amazing that the new tractor is out of service but the one from 1952 is up and running !

The OP apparently has a 2N
That would be 1942, rather than !952

Seems like they’d spring for a “loaner” while they are sorting all this out.
Did that ever come up?
