change to the chevron synthetic thf. Massey could not fix mine and I changed to the full synthetic and all temps dropped. no more squeeling or slipping gears. I have written a whole string on the synthetic oil and a contact at chevron. It is not cheap. it is 168.00 for a 5 gal pail but it does work. Onionfmr is going to switch his next week I think. Both of us will keep you informed.

2 other things. the remote handle next to the right side of the seat needs to be replaced depending on build date. their is a bulletin from Massey. Also there is problems with the quick connectors on the 135 loader. Massey changed vendors on it too.

Right now trying to buy two 5 gallon pails of Chevron Synthetic THF hydro oil. Not having any luck getting it locally yet! Once I get it located and some run time of it in my tractor, I'll report my results.

You could also try Amsoil ATH synthetic fluid, should be able to order it online and have it delivered to your door. Looks to be about the same price as the Chevron mentioned.

There are a couple of reasons that I want to stick with Chevron. First, Stormcom has reported excellent results with it and in his case has eliminated some of the problems that I'm experiencing. 2nd, talked to a farmer south of me, he said he was seeing a 50 degree reduction in hydro temperature using it. 3rd, list price locally for a 5 gallon pail of Amsoil is $231 while Chevron lists for $161 for the same.

There are many good fluids out there, was just trying to offer another potential solution, but I can certainly understand wanting to stick with one where there is direct experience! On the pricing, I forgot that I am a "preferred" member...I signed up on a deal they had, it was $20 for a 3 year membership I think. Probably more now...but with the membership, the 5 gal pail of ATH is $168.30. I run amsoil is my truck as well, transmission fluid, differential fluid, etc. So it was worth it for the membership. I usually buy when they have a free shipping deal. It's worth it for me for the fluids to come straight to my door!

I have done a lot of research on THF. I have also had a tractor that the manufacturer could not figure out. I looked at viscosity index and all the poop on about 15 oils. Schafer is the best but at 325.00 plus ship, I could not afford it. Chevron was a very close second. I went with it and my temps went from blistering to the low side of proper running temp. My cab was cooler from the lower temp. I am a happy camper on this one. I was about to buy a green 75 h.p. and said to myself why do I need a 75 h.p. tractor to cut a 6 acre field with a 8 ft. mower.

My local distributer Haigood and Campbell had the Chevron synthetic in stock. I said I would do a change and see before I traded it in. Everything started working like it was supposed to. For you naysayers out there, the factory oil had under 5 hours on it and 2 trips to the shop.

I wish Manufacturers would follow these issues and write on the behalf of the Manufacturers. Yes, Chevron is expensive, but so is the price of a tractor.

I said that I would post an update after doing the hydro oil change to Chevron Synthetic THF. I too looked at various hydro oils. After Stormcom's positive results (and a couple of conversations with him) and the fact I really like the tractor, I thought that I would give the Chevron product a try.

A special shout out and thank you to Stormcom!!! He picked up (2) five gallon pails of Chevron Synthetic THF and shipped them to me. Again, thanks Stormcom! I'm still waiting on my not so local jobber to get the Chevron oil to me. Probably, won't be until late June, now.

I am not affiliated with Chevron, AGCO or Massey. As a fact, I'm not impressed with Chevron on their level of customer service or their ability to help me locate and purchase the referenced oil.

I changed the hydro fluid to the Chevron product and used new Massey factory filters. I wouldn't believe this, if I wasn't experiencing it myself. IT IS LIKE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TRACTOR! I only have about 15 hours of run time on the new oil. However, so far, so good! I want to run for several more hours to see what happens.

Noticeable changes (tractor has 250 total hours on it now):

1) Hydraulics are much smoother! Can't put a number on it. But, it is noticeable.
2) Hydraulics have been quieted down markedly.
3) Hydro whine has been substantially reduced. Gone from annoying to barely noticeable.
4) Tractor is running cooler. I've been doing box blade work and pushing the tractor. Tractor has not gotten hot enough to go into power step down mode as described in the service manual. This would normally happen after about 3 to 4 hours of operation in the summer. Never in the winter when plowing. I was told by several dealers that it was normal for the hydro unit to reduce power after tractor is run in hot weather after several continuous hours of operation. I never understood this as being correct.
5) Reverse chatter is gone. When tractor would get hot after continuous hours of operation, when I went to go into reverse there would be a distinct chatter/grabbing feeling when trying to move in reverse. This hasn't happened since the hydro oil change.
6) Easy into Gear - this is in reference to snail, turtle and rabbit gears. Before the change, sometimes it would be difficult to get into a specific gear. Now, it almost falls into gear. My wife used the tractor the other day and asked me if I adjusted the linkage or something. Nope. She also commented on how smooth the tractor seemed to move from forward to reverse.
7) The 3-point hitch is a lot smoother. The lever moves more freely and implements move up and down easier and are not as jumpy as before.

When I say noticeable difference, I'm not talking about a 10% or 15% improvement, it is much more! Your personal experience may vary on this and I'm not recommending to anyone to make this change with their tractor. I'm just trying to be honest and comment on what I'm experiencing. I was planning to trade this tractor in on a bigger unit due to all of the above. If it keeps working as I've described, I will definitely keep it.

Onionfrm, thanks so much for your comments, this sounds like a significant improvement for you and it was nice that you put a few hours on the tractor under similar conditions where you previously had issues to confirm the change. Hopefully, others will benefit from this information and if they are having similar issues may want to consider changing their fluid like you did.

Also, it was nice to see other tractor owners helping out each other like Stormcom did for you by obtaining the fluid and shipping it to you, that's just another example of what makes this forum such a great resource!

Just got done talking to Agco does not answer. Told her of the answer to the hydro issues. She takes phone messages and looks at it internally. Why can't someone from Agco write on this and give some perspective on this. Is it because of the price of the oil? I do not know. All I can tell you folks is I fixed the issue myself. I was literally at the John Deere dealership having the tractor appraised for a trade in to a 75 h.p and said that I will change the oil so the new owner had good oil in it. I had the oil butler change it onsite and it sounded better so I cut some grass with it. You can see my earlier notes. I now have about 22 hours on the oil and it has not missed a lick. I am cutting at high 90's temp. in Texas. The A/C is also colder.

If anyone needs this oil, PM me and I do not mind going to my jobber and shipping it to you. It makes that much difference!

Stormcom,

Very generous of you to put yourself oul to assist other MF owners, If TBN still had the "Member of the Month" program, you would receive my humble vote.

NOTE: Kubota owners are obligated to use synthetic UDT fluid to maintain warranty terms and obligations.

Great to hear of your success guys! I may go out and replace my oil with the Chevron as well just to see how my 1652 likes it. I'm due for a fluid chance anyhow...
