Probably less expensive overall if you get it with the FEL right off the bat.
I think in that class, you should be fine with whatever you liked best on the test drive. Personally I can't stand the HST treadle thing. I had to go with something with seperate pedals for forward and reverse. Whatever machine fits you best is the one I'd go with.

I just got into the CUT last year and I really love it. I did a fair bit of shopping before I purchased a JD 2305. I worked the poop out of it without any mechanical failures. FEL and MMM in purchase. Added 4' box scaper, 5' rear blade and 12" post hole auger. The limiting factor for me is the 3 point lifting weight. So, as of today, I'm waiting for my 2520 ro arrive. A few more bucks but the 2305 traded well. I chose the JD because the Bota dealer thought his tractors should get a premium price over the JD, NH did not have a resale value and the JD has two pedals vs the treadel

1*Right now I'm waiting on delivery of 2 BX1500s that I will use in addition to my BX23.
I chose to go with something smaller instead of larger than the BX23 as the BX23 is all the bigger tractor I need.
Also rather than replace a tractor as you did I added to the fleet.
2* I picked the BX 1500 because I wanted something smaller than a JD2305 or BX2350 but I still wanted to stay with a S-Compact.
I Did not want to drop down into the Garden tractor field.
I was able to buy the 2 BX1500s and 4 attachments for the same money as one JD garden tractor .
3*I like 1 pedal over 2 pedals.

thanks BizDoc for the advice. ill probably go look at the Kubotas again this weekend. i know you must like that 3030. i test drove one even though i was not interested in that big of tractor. the dealer just fired it up and told me to take it for a ride. it was nice with PLENTY of power. i wish i needed a tractor that size. it seems like it would be easier to make my mind up. thanks again.

sandman, i may have to agree with you on the pedals. its what im used to anyway. dont know if that would stop me from buying the Kubota or not but it is something to consider. thanks for the advice.

The treadle pedal seams safer than having 2 petals to get confused with and hit the wrong one going in the wrong direction at the wrong time.
With 2 petals you have to constantly move your foot back and forth to the correct petal;
With just I treadle petal your foot is always on the right petal.:D

some guys drink their beer from the bottle, some from a glass. My dog can't drink from either one so he uses a bowl.

ok, one more question. at least i think just one. why is it important how much weight the 3pt hitch will lift? looks like if it will power the implements you need there should be no problem.

   / another city boy #19
JC, size your implements to the tractor and you won't have any problems...these tractors are designed for 4 ft. implements. I have the 2305 and I love it, moved into it from an LT150 this summer. like someone else said, some like to drink from a glass, some straight from the bottle. They are all good Japanese built machines, dealer support is the deciding factor IMO.
