Another diesel question

What is the difference in using winter diesel in the summer? Other than cost.

None that I know of, as long as it is stored to prevent contamination. I just put 33 gallons in the fuel pod storage tank, along with a bottle of Power Service. Probably had about 10 gallons still in it. I topped off all the tractors. We are getting our first cold snap next week, forecast low is 24 degrees. The fuel I just bought will last into the spring.

I believe winter blended diesel has a slightly lower btu or cetane (?) rating, but likely only noticable under laboratory conditions.
I have 55 gallons of winter diesel stored for emergency use that will be cycled in my mowers next season... It's a non-issue.

Winter diesel is treated to have a lower gel temperature. I’m still using some summer diesel and I just treat it to reduce the gelling temperature point.

Using winter fuel in the summer? Most likely fire, explosions and general mayhem. Like already said, not going to hurt a thing. In theory less power but I doubt enough to notice.

I tend to stock up on fuel in the winter so I dont have to wory about gelling. In thoery less power than summer fuel, but none you'd ever feel outside a lab or industrial scale monitoring.

It will depend on your usage and the type of "winter" fuel.
Some winter fuel is #2 with additives, that will be unnoticeable in the summer.
Winter fuel which is a blend of #2 with #1 blended in for the reduced cloud point will have a tad bit less power. When I'm roading my tractors I have a hill that it is a noticeable difference, also it doesn't smoke quite as much under a heavy load.

What are you running it in? If what you run it in has no restrictions on additives, you might want to add some biocide for critters. Try to store it where wild fluctuations in temperature are minimal. Keep the container’s spout or lid nice & clean.

I have enough to get me through March or April and was going to go ahead and buy another 35 gal since the price is down almost a $1 per gallon. I may go ahead and wait but I will probably have to have some before the summer change over.

Nothing at all. Did it all the time when in the Rockies or Alaska.

I’d wait rather than store. Although diesel stores ok, I’d still rather have fresh fuel than months-old fuel collecting moisture.
Moisture can cause lots of expensive problems that will make $35 seem irrelevant. I replaced a set of injectors ruined by old fuel and they were $1,200 each.
