Another homemade top & tilt project...

Thanks to liledoun, I have finally been able to piece together a top & tilt setup for my JD 4300. His post "My homemade TopNTilt/4th&5th control valve" helped me figure it all out. I actually finished the project a couple of months ago, but finally got around to painting everything this past weekend. All I can say is what a difference when using the box blade! Here's a pics of the tilt cylinder that I got from Prince.

Here's a shot of the top cylinder (a bit blurry). I picked it up at Tractor Supply. The end is just a weld on CAT 1 welded to a nut that is threaded onto the end of the cylinder.

Here's a (fuzzy) shot of the plumbing. I tied everyting into a JD power beyond kit. Pretty simple setup.

Gary - Here's a breakdown on the costs:

Joystick Loader Valve: $180 w/S&H (Prince Hyraulics)
Tilt Cylinder: $40 w/S&H (Prince Hydraulics)
Top Cylinder: $65 (Tractor Supply)
Weld-on CAT 1 link end: $8 (Tractor Supply)
Hoses/Fittings: $260 w/S&H (hydraulichosefittings.com)
Welding/fabrication of cylinder ends: $60
Power Beyond Kit: $220 (JD)

Total: $833

I guess the total price isn't too bad compared to what it would cost if you sourced it all from Deere. I think the increase in functinality has been well worth it.

You list the JD 'power beyond' as a major expense and it brings up a question for me. I have a JD backhoe on my 4200 already. Would the hydraulics for that eliminate my need for the 'power beyond' option?

Gary - I'm pretty sure that the PB kit is required for a backhoe, so you shouldn't need to buy that for top & tilt. I'd love to add a hoe to my tractor, but the $6k+ to do so is slowing me down.

I think the parts I used will work for the 42, 43, & 44 series. If you want some additional/better pictures, let me know and I'll send 'em to ya.

The list price for the top-n-tilt from my JD dealer is $750. He always gives me a good discount.

That is less than half what a local JD dealer quoted me for the top and tilt for my 4200.

The $750 is just for the top and tilt cylinders and hardware. Using JD hardware you would also need the field diverter kit and two more SCV's, which more than double the cost.

SIR, what type of valve would i need to do a top, and tilt?
i sent a request to northern tool asking what type of valve i would need,
and other questions. they said they would need to know what type of
hydraulic system i had on my tractor, what was the pressure, and gallons
per minute flow. they evaded the questions is what they did.
i know there are different types of valves, such as open center, closed center,
but i have no idea what all this means, and i have posted my question on
this web site many times. has anyone installed a top, and tilt on a L3000DT KUBOTA?
i did not get any replies. also i am not sure where to tap into the hydraulic system.
i talked to a tech, at a dealer, and he told me some things that are hard to accept.
he told me if you use the power beyond, it will damage the pump. has anyone heard
anything like this? i sure would like to find out more about this, but i have hit a brick
wall so far, and i have been asking questions for a long time. if anyone out there can
give me more information on this subject i sure would appreciate it. thanks.

You can go to the Kubota section then the aux hydraulic section for "L" series tractors on TractorSmart.com and get the factory kit. Or at least price it.

As mentioned above, I bought my valve from Prince Hydraulics. follow this link "Prince valve" and scroll down the page until you see the LVT model valve. That's the one I used. It is rated at 10GPM which was sufficient for my JD 4300.

I did a quick search for the specs on your tractor. It appears that it flows 5.8GPM and operates at 2205 psi. The specs did not indicate what type of system it has, but most new systems are open center. The valve mentioned above would work if the Kubota is has an open center system. Call Prince, they have several valve options that would meet your needs.

I hooked my valve into my JD power beyond setup. If Kubota has something similar, that is what you would hook into. My connections are all quick-connect so I can easilly remove the valve if needed.

Kubota only sells the Aux hydraulic kit (the remotes). The top link cylinder can be purchased from Carter & Carter. The tilt link cylinder you have to put together yourself. There are a number of topics on TBN giving the part numbers and how to instructions for the tilt link.

On tractorsmart.com once you have entered, click on Kubota, then L Series and then scroll down and click on aux hydraulics and get the part numbers. The kit includes hoses, valves and everything needed to install the remotes.
