another reason to NOT litter

In our county (Kaufman, east of Dallas) they usually have a crew from Goodwill walking and picking up trash about a week before contract crews mow. This all used to be done/maintained by state and county employees but I guess the cost got too high. I am also against the littering. Some areas have groups that "adopt" sections of road to keep clean.

We were at a Walmart early one morning during a camping trip, we had stopped to pick up some supplies and after putting everything away inside the rv, I pulled up next to the employee picking up trash in the parking lot. I asked him if I could throw my trash (it was one small bag) in his can he was pushing. He said no. I informed him that ok, I'll just pull on down the aisle and throw it out on the lot and he could pick it up when he got to it. I didn't, but he sure looked at me funny when I said that.

I keep my truck interior in a mess because I refuse to throw anything out the window.

Since groceries, and nearly everything else, comes in plastic bags, we have an abundant supply of them and keep two or three empty ones in the little storage pocket in the doors of our vehicles. So we always have a "litter bag" handy. I can't understand people throwing out their trash when it's so easy to put it in one of those plastic bags and later dispose of it at the gas station or the trash can at your own home.

In my opinion, people who litter are very inconsiderate, lacking normal intelligence and LAZY. I see more cigarette packs/butts and broken beer bottles/cans than any other type of trash around here. Of course, I did watch an old man unload a whole pickup load of trash in the City of Chattanooga, TN about 2-3 years ago---a refrigerator, stove and I can't remember the rest. But I did call the police on my cell phone and reported his tag number and description and gave an officer a report and told them I was willing to be a witness in court. Guess what? The policeman actually came back to where I was working after we filled out the report and said he went to the mans residence. He said the man had been drinking and was willing to come back and pick up his trash after his liquor wore off. The policeman said he didn't want to write him a ticket because he was poor and elderly. Needless to say, thats the last time I will ever bother to report trash again in Chattanooga. And the old man NEVER back came and picked up the trash, the taxpayer's(City) did.
And the newspaper always manages to keep throwing out their trash in bags(free newspaper) as well. Makes good confetti when mowing. :D
It would be nice if some people would use the grey matter between their ears once in a while. :)

You had more luck than I did.

I drove the back road home a couple of weeks ago and saw two guys backing-up a pick-up loaded with trash next to the creek. I dialed 911 and told dispatch what was happening and that I would be a witness.

I parked and waited down the road and after about 10 minutes the truck drove by. The back license plate was partially covered and the truck had no front plate. I called the police back and was told they referred it to public works for clean-up??? What a waste of time... and this is in the same city where all the creeks have no work buffer zones and require a special permit and oversight to do any type of work.

I go insane with this stuff, I have a corner were the kids dump there dirty condoms and liquor bottles on the ground. Up the road there is a spot were people just stop and toss tires or what ever off the pickups. I stop right there and take there plate and tell them I am turning them in if they don't pick it up. I won't stand for it at all. The other thing with smokers flicking the lit butts out the window setting the shoulder to flame and the near by woods. I mean come how stupid can someone be. See now you have my fur up

We all have those moments when things just push us over the edge. I had one about 2 months back that was provoked with a littering incident.

Neighbors kid is one of those kind you just KNOW you'd like to grab by the neck and squeeze. He fancies himself a "gangsta". Daddy bought him a fairly new Mustang. He drives past their driveway and throws his beer bottles/McDonalds bags/ect in my yard, then turns around and goes back to his parents drive. (We're the last house on a dead end road) One saturday afternoon, I'd just spent 5 hours mowing/raking/trimming/cleaning the front yard. I walk up on the front porch. Here come Jr. He launches a 12 pack of empty Miller Lite bottles in my yard, then turns around in my drive and goes back to his house. I'm quite sure there was steam coming out of my ears at that point. I picked up his trash, walked through the woods, and dumped all the bottles in the front seat of his car. Nothing like old beer bottles in 98 degree heat.

Haven't had any trash in my yard since.

I Love It! I have done the same thing with some of our neighbor kids.

Whatever happened to the "chain gangs" that used to pickup trash on the roadsides? I never see them around here anymore. Guess that was a violation of their civil rights

I used to hunt on an plantation down in Charleston and found a big heap of someone's household trash dumped in the woods. We went through it, found some junk mail that gave us the address of the owner of the trash. The old man that owned the place called the police. Rather than press charges the old man just had the police make the owner of the garbage come out and clean it up. It was pretty nasty by then.

There is something gratifying about poetic justice.

Once a week I do stop on the edge of my property and pick up the beer cans, beer bottles, and assorted trash.

Now mind you - drinking and driving is illegal. That is what appauls me the most. The people are actually drinking while they drive.
