GSD = German Shepard Dog

TnAndy, I'm looking at the that Dakota Alert - thanks!

Yeah, the Dakota isn't perfect, but it's the best I've found after trying several cheaper ones. I have a mag probe, and a motion unit as well. You can put up to 4 transmitting units on one base unit, and each will sound off with "Alert Zone 1, 2, 3, 4" based on the way you set the dip switches, so you know WHICH location is alerting....that is a real nice feature about it....expandable.

The mag works excellent with vehicles, it will even pick up steel toes boots if someone walks directly over it. The motion unit is sensitive to nearly ANY motion (like a bird, or a branch blowing in the wind), so it's best if you set those where you can look out a window and see it.

I let my wife name him. She came up with Braxton, don't ask me why, she just likes the sound of it. So far he's a pretty good boy and has only had one pee accident in the house. That's not bad for a 9 week old puppy who was raised in an outside pen. We'll keep him in the house for a few weeks and then slowly move him outside once he's comfortable around the other two dogs. Eventually he'll be outside 99% of the time with Echo and Halo. The only time our dogs are inside is in bitter cold weather below 10 degrees F.

I live off of a 2 lane state highway. People are always using my and my neighbors drive to turn around in. Pisses me off but there is really nothing I can do. Funny thing is there is a roundabout less than 1/4 mile away. One day I saw a guy drive in my drive cut through the grass and out my neighbors drive. I wouldn't mind so much if they didn't tear up the gravel. I have seen it all, driver changes, diaper changes, just to stretch. I put up a No Trespassing sign Saturday and Sunday had someone do a driver change. They typically never pass beyond the fence and rock columns which are about 20 feet or so from the highway. Still irritating and frustrating.

Mmehh, I dont mind turn arounds as long as they stay on the drive and dont come up further than they need to.

The Dakota Alert MAPS BS Kit works really well for us. It uses a metal detecting probe sensor buried along the driveway. The receiver will work with several probes at once so you can install the first one at the end of your driveway and another closer to the house so you know if they made it that far. With the metal detecting probes there are no false hits on animals. Dakota Alert also has motion detectors that work with the base station if you need them. Best prices we found for their products are on Amazon.

I have two Dakota motion alarms. Like you, I have them give different tones so I know if they've passed Point A AND Point B. Works well for peace of mind!

I talked to a tech guy at Dakota. They are super helpful!! He explained to me how to best set up the "electric eye" on those motion units. He said they work best when pointed at a 90 degree angle across the driveway and at a height right around where the "average car's radiator would be." He said that the beam is only about 3' wide when it's 50' out, so it's pretty tight. I have my units mounted on trees and they're each pointed at a tree directly across the driveway from their mounting places. That way it minimizes branches, etc. setting it off.

Those Dakota's also have the ability to trigger a 12V relay in the unit. I haven't tried it yet, but I'm thinking about hooking it up to trigger a GPS tracking device that a bought to put in my (elderly) dad's car. It has different alerts that you can wire up and then it will text you with the alert.

I also bought a DropCam several months ago. I like it pretty well although it will send "motion alerts" on bright, sunny days when a cloud passes over. It thinks that the shade is motion.

The combination of the Dakota and the DropCam works pretty well for me. I work from home but my office is in the walkout basement. But I can watch the DropCam in a browser window. So when the Dakota goes off, I can simply switch to the browser to see who/what is coming up the driveway.

Several things.
What is a GSD dog?
I have a 9 yo Doberman that is still in tact. He runs the property and wouldn't hurt anybody. He is aggravating wanting to be petted all the time. I have heard him at night fighting something. He is vicious sounding but always comes back. We are looking for a female Doberman since we lost ours last year. They are hard to find.

Or get Czechoslovakian wolf dog. It was bread from German Sheperd dog by Czechoslovakian military specifically for guarding duty.

Our dog is a Black Mouth Cur (BMC). He is a neutered Male of about 75 lbs. He'll be 2 years old this month. He thinks it is his job to guard us and our property. He comes by this naturally. He patrols a certain perimeter of our property and does not roam. Nothing gets by him, animal or person. He's not mean but he's not friendly either. He is intimidating. He is very good at his job.

Meet MF Jones.
