Almost all of my drilling is done on my milling machine at 250 to 300 rpm. I use a liberal amount of cutting oil and a pilot hole for anything over 1/2".

If you take care of your bits and use them as they were designed to be used, they will last a very long time.

...drill a small pilot hole first.

...use some self-drilling, self-tapping screws...

I dont think cobalt is even recommended to use in hand drills

...cutting oil will help keep it cool and help the chips clear out.

See...?

I should have asked before I even bought the bolts.

It's all good now, though. I should get the pre-drilled trailer back tonight. I'll have the deck on in a few hours, and I'll be hauling the tractor back from Dad's house before sun-down.

Then I can get back to the serious business of "working" with my tractor.
