growing up a few of my friends moms baked bread, mine did not.

seems the bread makers had lots of kids.

at about 14-15 years old we would go to my buddies house if his mom as baking bread. his mom would throw a loaf of fresh hot bread at us just to watch the commotion, fighting, cussing and chaos. a feeding frenzy! punches were thrown!

i also remember, if she heard you swear she would grab you by the shoulder or neck or something, using just 2 fingers. she was maybe 110 pounds and could bring a linebacker down to his knees with one pinch.

her arms were like steel cable, you sure don't see that much anymore.

3 meals, 2 people, 1 chicken?
That sounds about right as long as the chicken does not eat :ROFLMAO: .

Maybe we don't eat as much meat as others do, we load up on veggies and fruit. 1 thigh or part of a breast is enough meat for me for a meal.

Yeh, same here, and actually I was wrong, it usually lasts us 4 meals!

I think you and me do it the same, break the bird down when first bringing it home.

My wife likes the white meat, so breast meat cut in half...4 meals. As for me, I'll eat that whole upper part (minus the breasts carved out) with the wings the first night, and then I have a thigh each for next 2 meals, and final meal is the 2 drumsticks. 4 meals. We usually eat that with a big salad, or rice or potatoes. Desert afterwards, and we're good to go.

Growing up, my mother would make fresh tortillas and a big pot of pinto beans every Friday. I can still remember the aroma... At dinner time she would roll out the tortilla dough and fry it in oil to make a very thin scone she called Bonwellos (spelling?). They would puff up and were amazing to eat with beans and Chile Verde. The leftover Bonwellos would be served the next morning cold with cinnamon and powdered sugar and a small dish of honey for dipping while drinking coffee. I would have milk as I didn’t acquire a taste for coffee until my 18th year.
This has turned into a fun thread! Bringing back memories I thought were long forgotten. (y)

Does mayo belong on a italian hoagie?

I'm just not certain if I've been in NC too long, but I NEVER put mayo on a italian sub.

My wife went out for fast food while I was sanding some trim, and I texted her no mayo just to make certain.

What comes on the hoagie? Fricken mayo.

I get people can whatever they want on a sandwhich, but on a spicey italian hoagie, is mayo normal around the country?

I mean provolone cheese with oil an vinegar, pepper yes, but mayo?

Heck, I call my wife a communist for putting mayo on her hamburgers LOL
I am from Californistan and despise mayo on most sandwiches etc.
My wife is fom the south and they put that crap on everything!
My monster in law dips her french fries in it!
Now that I live in the south I have learned to ask, "What do you put on it?"
That does not work at Hardies. They will give me a burger with nothing on it but a bunch of mayo!

I’ve heard that we need to take extra precaution when dealing with the live chickens. Before you realize what you’ve gotten yourself into, you’ve purchased a cow, a pig, goats and now you have justification to finance a tractor!

That's only if you get the little chickens. If you get you some big chickens, like Costco has...you're not gonna have room for other livestock.

For Christmas at work we would buy each other gag gifts. I knew my boss loved bacon. I got him a jar of this. About a week later he asks where I got the item. The way he asked was funny..... it was like a junky asking for my dealer. Told him it was a secret. Later, I went back to the only store in town that sold this. And they were all out. A guy came in and bought their entire stock. I start describing my boss, and they say, yes... that's the guy. :) View attachment 713943
That's not a gag gift, that's a real gift that I would be happy to receive. I'd put you up for a promotion.

There could be some truth to that, although I bought my tractor first. Then somebody gave me some laying hens, and the rest is hiistory. This year I raised 25 meat chickens, 7 turkeys, and two pigs along with the 14 laying hens. It isn't cheap but I know what they were fed, and they live a good life until that big day.

Right on, totally. I got only ducks now, for the eggs mostly but we do eat the males. But we raised pigs before, and that's the way I see it too...I know what they ate, I know they were treated well, had the best life possible and went quick before even knowing what hit em. Sure does make me feel good about the whole thing, yup!
