Re: Any Big Guys Out There with a BX: one solution

Big Guy,

I'm 6'2", and about 200#, so I'm not as wide, but a little taller than you. I had a problem bumping my knees into the dash on my B7500, and occasionally switching the headlights on/off (depending on which way my knees shifted). I added a 2x2 square tube under the seat rail to raise the seat about 2". Made all the difference in the world.

Here's a view from the rear of my little "seat extension".

That's cool (aka Kewl depending on your age and coolness). Wouldn't have thought of that.

Sometime the simplest things make a big difference. I am 6'2" & 240 lbs. My one beef with my tractor was that I needed another inch back on the seat, easily noticed when using the tractor 8-10 hours steady. I just applied your fix to the seat frame and am noticably more comfortable.
I was going to re enginner the seat bottom to move the whole assembly rearward. Now I am glad that I didn't have the time to do that yet.
5 seconds with the crescent wrench, problem solved.

Thanks for your post:

Well, I finally got to examine the leg room of the BX tonight. Compared it to a 2410. I was amazed to find that the BX had more usable room. That’s right, the BX had more leg room than the 2410. Couldn’t believe it. Guess I won’t be using leg room as an excuse to upgrade. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Yep, Big Guy and that goes for the 7500 and 7400 as well. I agree, the BX probably has more room as evidenced by the fact that I can stand up between the seat and wheel on the BX and I have to hunch over to do the same on the 2410. Yep, the BX is bigger than the 7500 and 2410 and finally someone other than me has discovered this---FINALLY, Thank you.
The geometry of the seat to leg space to steering wheel is a bit different which may suit some folks better on the 7500/2410 but over all I think the BX is quite roomy. Oh yeah, don't get smug and think your JD 4100 has more room (than 7500/2410)--it don't.
If everyone had a BX we would all be having to much fun to think about war and such.

Im closer to 7 feet than 6 but have no problems on my BX. The only advice I can give you is to remember that you are exposed to the cold winds in winter when you are sitting up on any tractor. Its worth making sure youve got those long johns or some thermal underwear on or your crown jewels might get a little frosty.

No, I think it was designed that way for exactly that reason.

Yeah, after considering it for a while I think you're right. What I didn't think of in comparing it to a car is the different leg positions on a tractor which is more like sitting on a chair. If they made the seat go down as the seat went back your thighs would point higher and higher into the air which could get rather uncomfortable.

That's it exactly! I liked the way the wheel sat back more in my lap and was slightly higher on the B7500. To others this would be called crampt but to me it just felt comfortable. I also seemed to have more support for my back with it firmly planted against the back of the seat. Of course I haven't come up with anything yet where I need to stand up to see./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif Unfortunately, my back still hurts when I get off the tractor but I suppose it may be all that jumping on and off that I do while using it.

I'm feeling a little small after reading this thread. At a few inches under 6 feet and 15 or so pounds under 200 I feel pretty small around you guys. But I fit well in the L3000DT/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
