I need a compact tractor in the 18-28 HP size but want a live pto so i can bush hog easier. I have a budget of under $12,000. From what i am finding Yanmars, Mahindras and Kioti's do not have live PTO's. The only Kubota's i can find with live pto's are out of my price range. Any help????

Take a look at a Deere 3005. The MFWD (4WD) model have a 2-stage clutch which gives you a "live" PTO. These machines put out 27 engine HP and 24 or 25 PTO HP.
For $12K, you should be able to find a low hour Deere 790 (same tractor as the 3005) with a loader too (which you probably wouldn't get for $12K on a new machine).
From personal experience, I can attest a 790 (or 3005) can handle a 5' rotary cutter with no problem. You will want front ballast if you don't get a loader.

It will be doing a lot of loader work in the winter as well. I have heard the 790's where weak in the front end. Gear sets are very spendy for green paint machines........

If you mean snow plowing...no, you wouldn't have any problems.
You do want adequate rear ballast with a 790 and any towing should be done going forward, using the tractor's drawbar.
There have been a lot of 790s sold..and still being sold (marketed as the 3005). Yep, a few have had front end problems reported on TBN. Most haven't (including mine, which I owned for about 6 years) had any problems.

I have had to use an old Howard Rotavator to chip up hard snow in the winter on some properties. The front end loader kets the **** knocked out of it if i don't. I saw a 790 with a loader and hoe for $12500 a few weeks ago but it was 400 miles away and i am very busy and short handed. Couldn't go look at it right away and it sold.....

If any of these you looked at are HST, they work just like the independent PTO. Just let off the travel pedal to stop, clutch is used only to engage PTO or shift between speed ranges.

HST is virtually worthless in the mountains. Not only have i lost power by going up in elevation but every time i pull a hill the hydro eats so much power the blades nearly stop unless you barely creep along which is no goo for production. I'm sticking with tried and true gear drive that i can fix if it breaks....

We sold Kubota B-2150's with loaders and 5' bruch hogs and you can buy one of those and have change left! B-7800's are close to your goal.
