mjstef said:Their experience is not mine. Hydro VS gear is like night vs day when your working heavy. I grew up on a dairy farm with Deere and Ford our main power units. I don't mind shifting gears but HATE working on things when they break. Buying a used hydro is like a crap shoot. Being i live in the middle of nowhere i have to be able to work on my own stuff so a simple gear drive is the way i will go. I can split a tractor and put a clutch in in a long day for $300-$400 but how long will it take and how much $$$ on a broken hydro? Putting 400-500 hours a year on it is bound to happen. I guess i should go back and edit that to say "NO HYDRO'S" I'll just do it here. What GEAR DRIVE tractors in the 18 to 28 hp range have live or stand alone pto's????
Have a look our for MF compacts in the 1100, 1200, 1400, 1500, 1600. Maybe not the 1600 for budget reasons. The 1523 is one to avoid, since it has a single stage clutch. But there are lots out there, just need to do some looking.
Have you checked tractor house yet??
