New Holland has quite a few earlier 20-28 HP machines with 3 speed Hydros and Live PTO. I can tell you from personal experience that I could plow and go up steep hills with my old 1520 and not loose a lick of power from the Shabura engine. You need to choose the proper size brush hog to match the PTO HP too. I liked being able to control the PTO with the clutch. Being able to slow your ground speed without the engine RPM changing makes a huge difference when brush hogging. The earlier 5 or 6 year 1520 model tractors can be bought for that price easily. The new models too unless you insist on getting a front loader, that will run you over on the newer models.

You are mistaken about Kioti. All the gear CK's except for the CK20 have live, 2 stage clutch/PTO's.

And all Kioti DK's have independant PTO (flip a switch and the PTO is on).

Yup, I hadn't looked at the CK 27 yet. No dealer within 100 miles from me so i was just looking online......

So I take that 'independant PTO would work also? If that's the case theres a lot more Massey's that would suit you also.

I'm not pushing Massey, just because I own one, but according to the specs..........they have quite a few that would suit your needs.

I need a compact tractor in the 18-28 HP size but want a live pto so i can bush hog easier. I have a budget of under $12,000. From what i am finding Yanmars, Mahindras and Kioti's do not have live PTO's. The only Kubota's i can find with live pto's are out of my price range. Any help????

I have a 2008 Mahindra 5525 which has a gear tranny (8F/2R) and a live pto (two stage clutch). I haven't check in detail, but I think all Mahindra tractors made in the past decade or longer have the live pto.

It seems to me that you might be confusing live pto with independent pto.

HST is virtually worthless in the mountains. Not only have i lost power by going up in elevation but every time i pull a hill the hydro eats so much power the blades nearly stop unless you barely creep along which is no goo for production. I'm sticking with tried and true gear drive that i can fix if it breaks....

By this response I'm guessing your view on HST is based on lawn tractors. With most of these new hyrdo tractors having a multi-range sub transmission, I don't know of many that can't adequately pull any hill. My B3200 will pull my bush hog at full speed in M range with no problem, even on steep hills (we live in the mountains also).
