Have you ever seen any of these "Reality" TV show people that didn't have a screw loose?
"Reality" TV shows are, IMHO, one of the most...if not the most, ridiculous thngs I've ever seen.

I agree that in the event of a nuclear war most of us would be SOL, and like you, I would not kill simily for the sake of killing. However, if one survived, it would be very likely that one would be forced to kill in self defense.

The kind of stress that would be imposed by such a disaster changes people. Even people who are normally kind and caring have the capacity to become animals under the right conditions. It's simply part of being human.

In essence I agree and the 'becoming animals" is what may be problematic for many people and living with what they have become.

For reasons that are unimportant, I have read quite a bit on Law Enforcement and Military Personnel's actions in self defense and battle and even many who were trained to kill could not. By some estimates, two in ten soldiers did not return fire in battlefield conditions. Others have estimated higher, so who knows. I have personally known quite a few Law Enforcement Officers who could not fire their weapons in a gun fight and also known quite a few who after having done so were unable to handle the aftermath.

I know I can kill in self defense, at my age however, I am just not sure I would do it under those circumstances. Heck without access to health care I wouldn't last long anyway, so why take someone with me; just don't know and hope I never find out.

Agree completely "reality" has very little in common with reality. I do like a couple of them though like Ax Men and Swamp People though I accept very little of it is real.

When I was in military service we got nuclear war training. It was short and the test had only one question. "What should you do when you see nuclear explosion?"
Answer: "Take a really good look at it because you will not see it again."

I enjoy the show and I acknowledged that it is more about phobias and compulsions then it is about plausible threats to our life as we know it.

I find it particularly interesting when the preppers have turned a small yard into a jungle farm. Some have taken swimming pools and turned them into hydroponic garden/fish farms.

It really makes you wonder how much food you could get out of your property if you wanted too, regardless of what the future holds.:licking:

These people have a screw loose. The one show the guy spends 24/7 on preparing and spent something like 150K on stored food. Enough to feed 22 people for a number of years.

This nut case did trial evacuation, had scouts, a truck load of ammunition and on and on and on.

So this guy is so worried about lining through some Apocalypse, yet has created his own apocalypse and is living a miserable life.

I worked with one of these nuts 40 years ago who was doing all this crap and was sure the world was ending shortly. Well that was 40 years ago and that miserable soul is still worried. He won't have to worry much longer he's about to die of old age.

First of all who wants to live when the the nuke hits, the people riot, roaming bands of marauders roam the streets raping a pillaging.

Nah, if it all happen I want to be right under the nuke when it lands, or I'll climb the tallest mountain and watch beautiful sunsets till I starve to death.

Who would want to "survive" under the conditions these people are worried about.

So what -- I'm doing to live in a cave or hole in the ground, but have enough food to DO THAT for years...NO THANKS.

Yep, that is what I have always told my wife and kids.

My wife watches that show and to me we should get a bug out bag. I said to go were? We already live in the country and I sure the H**l am not going to travel to the cities.

Spot on , these shows are "Bread and Circuses" for the masses, (see the end of the Roman Empire) ! I don't have anywhere to bug out to so here I stay , but I am prepared !

It's not the end of the world that concerns me it's the FSA coming a knocking at my door for free food and stuff when the city shelves become empty. 15+ trillion in debt and climbing, sadly we seem to be Greece on steroids

There are free plans out there for barrel ponic systems that let you grow fish and food.
When "prepping" if you call it that, I call a lot of what I do permiculture, and I try to prep in plain sight.
For example, hauling stone for walls, and working on planting beds. Much easier to do now on a full stomach and with pain killers inside if i tweek something. Hauling stone is not something I would want to do if I was worried about roving bands of people. But now that I have the stone walls in plain sight and close to the house I have some nice walls, and a close source of building materials. Its all in how you want to look at the world.
A lot of the doomsday people are saying when it happens, some of the more adjusted say IF

Just had to comment that this is absolutely the best, most level-headed, complete and realistic survival discussion I've ever seen. I totally believe that the experience and advice of this Argentinean is worth taking to heart. It is superbly written in excellent English, explains each point logically without belaboring the points.

Anyone concerned about survival, doomsday, or self defense ignores the recommendations at their peril.
