Since you are from Rockford, it seems you have no choice but to continue with your assignment, as James Garner has retired.

That was a good TV show. Now we just need to find people to play Dennis Becker the cop, Angel the snitch, Rocky and Beth Davenport the lawyer.

Some people think we should leave catching crooks to the cops. I think we all have a responsibility to keep our neighborhoods safe. An attitude of ignoring stuff like that is how a country goes to ****.

The reason we always need more cops than we have is because citizens shirk their civic duty. If everyone just did a little (within their ability and not particularly dangerous or heroic) we would all be safer in the resultant lawbreaker-unfriendly atmosphere. Instead, many of us are into the us and them mentality where the cops are them. Unfortunately that often tends to lump us in with the criminals.

Yet another case of... "If you are not part of the solution you are part of the problem."

Neighbor got home today. He went through his garage and didn't find anything missing.:) He came over to look at the pictures off my computer but, didn't recognize the truck from anywhere. nor did he know anyone that fit my description. Due to the info that was anonymously PM to me, there may be a connection in the fact that the vehicle was owned and/or driven by someone in the same trade as my neighbor works and lives maybe 15 miles away. I guess we'll wait and see what the police come up with next week. Thanks to all that have helped and followed along. I'll keep you informed.

**UPDATE**

Detective came to my house yesterday and had me do a photo line up. I was able to pick the guy out of 6 pictures. He wouldn't say if the guy had and priors but, I was guessing he did because the photo was from the waist up. Michigan drivers license photo are just head shots. I hope he has some priors and actually gets some jail time. I asked if he would be picking the guy up. Again he wouldn't say. Pretty tight lipped. The license plate number must have been correct because that was the guy I saw. How else would the get him??

If you really want to know, a lot of this info will be in the public domain (assuming the perp is not a juvenile). Some news papers print an extract of the police blotter. If he gets arrested, that info is in the public domain and you can get it.

If your friend isn't trying to get you scheduled for a BBQ cookout or some sort of THANK YOU then he just doesn't get it. You went way out above and beyond his reasonable expectations. I know you didn't do it for recognition but if it were me you would have no doubt whatsoever regarding my personal appreciation and I would be squawking for you to receive public recognition.

Once as a salesman staying at a local motel I went with 'the boys' for some suds and found my car broken into upon retrieving it from the parking.

While driving back to the motel I spotted a police car hidden for traffic violations so I stopped and I guess a bit PO'd accused them of only looking for the easy crimes and not doing prevention work.

The exchange was fairly civil and ended up whereby I described the stolen goods.

At about 4 AM there was knocking on my motel door and lo and behold were the police (They said that I was in the most likely motel for sales reps) and sorry for the inconvienience but would I please come to the station and fill in a formal complaint as they cought the guys!

The young, under age guy had a carry bag with mine and other stolen goods, but the older guy had nothing of significance in his possession.

Well I identified my property OK except for a handfull of pens that I basically overlooked.

The police insisted that I look at the pens (cheap advertising giveaways).
Turned out that they were convention giveaways that I had collected the week prior. (and were in the 'leader's' pocket)

The crooks fessed up and next morning the police came to the motel dining room to advise me to please pick up my property as because of the confession they did not need the evidence.
Police told me the crook fessed up to some 36 B & E in the area and thereby closing 37 cases.

The police said that the 5 cent VERY positively identified pens provided the incentive for the extended interrogation that led to admission of guilt.
They also added that the perp was very well known but just too smart to catch until my 5 cent pens showed up in his pocket.

This occured in Sherbrooke Quebec some 25 years back.
