Any hummingbirds yet?

Had one last week, then it got a little cooler and didn't see any until yesterday. Put the feeders out last week, but didn't see any at them until today

Saw my first humming bird this week for a fleeting second or two. Have not seen another one sense then. I did see a owl both in the evening and early morning. First time I saw the owl I could not tell if it was an owl or a hawk but the second time I got a good look. The owls nest in a tree behind the house so I am glad to see them return. They are blend in sooooo well with the tree bark, if you don't see them move, you don't see them. :shocked::thumbsup:

The hawks never leave but it is spring and they are talking away. We have been puppy sitting for a friend and the puppy and wife were outside in the flower garden working. Well, the wifey was working while the puppy was being a puppy. :laughing::laughing::laughing: The hawks started talking and the puppy ran under some bushes and started barking. That was pretty interesting behavior! How does the puppy know to fear the sound of hawks and run for cover? :confused3:

Getting my first feeder up today.

Had a heat wave this week and they showed up promptly.

I put out one feeder around a week ago. So far no hummingbirds. Any day now.

I use 1 cup of sugar to 4 cups of water...so far this year I have been through 2 full pounds of sugar in two feeders...

I'm in the mountains of N.E. GA...

on another migratory note...The rose breasted grosbeaks seemed to have left after about a 10 day stay...have spotted an American Redstart a couple of times...am hoping to see a Tanager before they have all moved on north...

According to the maps they should be coming, put 2 feeders up yesterday, no sightings yet.
Tons of the little Gold Finches, few Grosbeaks, few pairs of wood peckers and a few cardinals and too many morning dove and blue jays.

I saw our first hummingbird a couple of minutes ago.

A bear took down a couple of feeders so I am down to suet for the red breasted, downey, and hairy woodpeckers and thistle for the Gold Finches. I am surface broadcasting mixed seed until I run out. The surviving feeders are brought in at night now. No Grosbeaks this year. We get all the usual birds for a mixed NE forest and open field meadow environments.
